    Big News!!!

    Dorastar
    has received this reply....
    Hi Kate

Dan's just passed me your information. This sounds like a really lovely thing to do, and we'd certainly like to help.

Now, I've had a good look at the chart, and as each letter comes out at 2.25" square, I reckon if you added 1.5" each side that allows you half an inch for seaming them together each side, and a clear inch border too - making each square of Aida 5.25" x 5.25". (You might like to suggest to each lady stitching that she oversews the edges of the Aida to stop it fraying first, as there's a lot of too-ing and fro-ing going on with the pieces, before they'll be made up.)

We are happy to provide you with all the Aida and threads you need - and some needles free of charge. We'll pop 2 x skeins of each colour thread listed together with the squares of Aida (I'll cut them for you). You can then cut lengths of thread for each square according to the letter of the alphabet being worked, and the colours needed. Are you happy for the Aida to be plain white?

I'm not sure how you're going to put this all together, but here are my thoughts for what they're worth! To make a decent size quilt, I would suggest you try to get hold of some fabric so that you can piece these squares together with borders all round, or indeed another way to do it would be to hem under each square and attach them to a ready made plain quilt in a grid? If you stitch each stitched square back together into one piece it will only work out very small, and you'll lose the cuteness of each individual letter. I'm sure you've probably thought all this through already, so please ignore my ramblings if they're not relevant!

Do let me have your address Kate, and I'll send this all out to you.

Just as an after thought - if there's any way of listing us as a supplier of the fabrics/threads when it comes to any auctioning/publicity online, we would be delighted to be mentioned.

So thats fantastic! Big thanks to Dorastar for sorting that out :T :T

If Dorastar doesn't mind sorting it out and posting it to everyone then could we all please send her some money to cover packaging and posting costs please? I have pm'd her to discuss how much that should be.

As they have also asked to be mentioned (which I think is only fair) i was thinking on the last patch along with all the other writing putting something like.....'supplies generously donated by sewandso.co.uk'

I also think we should put the designers name on too as we are using her patterns.

    What does everyone think?

Also I don't think we have even mentioned the quilters and the fabric they will need, I am going to pm Lellypantsand sort that out with her as its her and the other quilters who need this info and then I will let everyone know afterwards.

Also a big welcome and thanks to Kandipandi :):)

Isn't that brilliant - really good of them (glad I have spent so much money on their site now LOL)

I think it's only right they get a big mention in a square to themselves:j:T and of course the designers name as well.

You mentioned the stitchers names on their squares...would this be along the lines of 'Louise *Surname* or 'Louise, Edinburgh' (rather than surnames)

I thought it would be nice to have all our towns on it to show how people from all over the country have got involved. Opinions?:)

Yay! Well done for getting that sorted for us! I'm actually on my way to Stroud today (where Sew & So are & also the town where my mum works) and plan on going to the shop as I need some Gentle Art Sampler threads. The shop & warehouse are seperate, so the shop might not know anything about the quilt, but I can thank them in person if you like.

LOL that's something they wouldn't expect, one of the stitchers showing up.

I think it's a great idea, you would be able to tell more about the forum group as well :)

  • Thats great that they're donating.

I definitely think they need a square of their own, and the same with the designer. Also as mentioned it will be tiny if we only quilt with the aida letters, so i presume were going to need fabric in between to pad it out.... or a large fabric border, so maybe us stitchers who can afford it should donate some money towards the fabric, so the quilters arnt left with the cost. What do you guys think?

Also re sending a sae to Dorastar i think thats a good idea (once we know the weight of stuff) maybe if were doing that and putting our letter on it we should put our forum name and letter on the inside of the flap so to make it easier for her but so its not on the outside for sending.

Have sent sewandso my address and am happy to do the posting out, either if people want to send me an SAE or I can pop them in post and you can send some dosh to my hubby's paypal.

Probably best to leave it till I've got the stuff from sewandso then can sort it out from there rather than clog up the thread in the meantime

It's only going to be half a meter across if we don't pad it out. I ws going to try to look at putting a plain square and then a letter and then a square etc until we've got a decent size. Also giving the aida a fabric border (unless it doesn't sew well) I'll put a copy up as soon as I've finished sketching.

any preferences on a single or double quilt?

I'm going to look into getting donations for the cloth and wadding to put the quilt together but I'll post if we have probelms!

    Hey everyone :)
Have been discussing with Lellypants regarding fabric etc.. and donations from companies so we'll see how that goes first and if no luck then decide on donations.
Lellypants your idea on padding it out sounds great, will be graet to see a sketch of your design :j

As Dorastar has said she doesn't mind whether people are sending and SAE or sending a paypal payment that leaves everyone to chose what is easier for them, which I think is a great idea as some people find it hard to get out and some people don't have paypal so thanks for both options Dorastar :)

    Ruth
thats agreat idea to mention the quilt to them, as Louise said it will be nice for them to see one of us in person :)

Craftlady Im pretty sure there is still a square left to stitch, thanks for joining :j

Louise thats a great idea about putting our towns on too, we may need to put first name, surname and town though if it will fit as there is bound to be people with the same first name...unless we are incredibly lucky :D

23rdspiral don't feel like you should apologise for not doing the quilting bit, you are helping by cross stitching a square...thats fantastic as it is!!
