Is there anything at Wigan Pier?

Did you see my pub recommendation yesterday? We stopped at Walton Le Dale on the way back down the M6.

Nope. Wigan Pier, used to have a museum, were you could go into an old fashioned school room and get a right B0llocking from a "teacher" in a cap and gown, but it has sadly closed down. Bowling is near the pier. Wigan town centre is open, but that's just shopping and a lot of bars. Roller rink is open, but think you have to have your own skates and not baby friendly obviously. Other than that its outdoor places, three sisters, Orrell waterpark, Worthington lakes etc. But that's just walking round lakes.

Shouts Natalie85 and Sami for help!! (Edited: Thanks Natalie)

Yes saw the recommendation. I'll be lucky. OH thinks it is impossible to go out for something to eat with two kids. More proof that he is a tit.

Tia. You are top class.:rotfl: Excellent comment on SS's post

When I was learning BSL I spoke to several deaf parents who didn't want their kids to have implants because it could alienate them from the deaf community. The thing with deafness is that some deaf people don't see it as a disadvantage and wouldn't want to hear if they had an option to.

My teacher and his wife were both profoundly deaf and they had one deaf child and one hearing child - they both said they worried more about the hearing child fitting in than they did about the deaf child.

But it's the fact that some think they can judge another persons choice to have their baby hear, when they think they have the right to make their own decisions. What makes me soo angry in life is when people refuse to see things from someone elses point of view. We all lead different paths in life and therefore are choices are different, I read what you found with interest, not with a 'they have no right'. The family in the video did what was right for them, so why weren't others just happy for them. :(

Not a rant at you BTW, just the FB people. :A

    Hi everyone!

I'm moving over here from the pregnancy thread and thought I'd introduce myself. Holly Alyssa was born last Tuesday weighing 6lbs 13oz after rather a long drawn out labour and we brought her home on Friday. We're struggling to adjust to her sleeping pattern at the moment. Lots of sleeping during the day and continuous feeding during the night! Please tell me this doesn't last forever?!?!

GISI yey for H napping in his cot.

Wigan ladies I need help with something we can do on Sunday in Wigan. We are visiting friends there and their suggestions of things to do just weren't baby-friendly. I did think of bowling but wondered if there was anything locally that was a bit more exciting?
    errmmmm... tbh not really:o

MFD - I think the pier is closed on sundays and is pretty boring unless your a history geek (like me)

which sunday is it SJ? you might have trouble getting about if it's next week because its walking day at my church and most church's are usually on the same day.

Basically there are swimming pools, playcentres and parks which are all child friendly places otherwise its just shopping, cinema, sports stuff.
If you don't mind a drive slightly further afield there is gulivers world and camelot theme parks that have stuff aimed at younger kids (but older than A :undecided) if it's a nice day Martin Mere is good for a walk in the sun or Walton gardens could be good, not been for years so not sure what's there now but we used to go to Haigh Hall when we were kids. My mate's hubby works at Farmer Teds but again might be too 'old' for A.

phew didn't realise there was so much we've not done yet! We've only done

No have been told how fab it is by loads of people. Obviously loosing huge amounts of cash, is much preferable to spending it treating your family.

It doesn't last forever, musogirl :D And congratulations!!!

MFD, it started to get right out of hand with race and social status coming into it. And that those with implants (or aids) were no longer welcome in the deaf community at all. It was quite shocking that there was such venom coming from the deaf community because the parents chose to get him implants. Guess I just never expected to see the nasty side of what I'd always seen as a welcoming community. The way the comments were worded it was very 'oh how dare you choose to fix your baby, it's insulting to every deaf person'. They were basically told they were no longer welcome. In my head it's like the physically disabled community saying get out because you use a splint/prosthetic/wheelchair/go to physio etc. Hard to explain, so I'll stop now.

LOL - I agree with you completely - nobody is more live and let live than me!! As I have said before, I have enough on my plate holding my own family together to care what anybody else gets up to. Not that I don't 'care' (before I get jumped on) I just don't see it as my place to judge or to pass comment (unless invited by implication by you lot!!). When I am convinced that me and mine are perfect I will go around belittling the decisions of others ;)

:D It was very family friendly (without being a chain-pub) which was why I thought I would pass it on. It had a sign on the wall asking people not to swear because it was a family pub! The childrens meal (hand-made beefburger with real chips) was too much for a 10 year old!!

There was also chickens in the grounds :D

Remeber the link SS had of the little boy who heard his mum for the first time? Did anyone read the comments on that page? It turned into a big fight about how getting implants was an insult to the deaf community. It was some reading!
I read some of them, but I was aware of the issue already (from ER, remember the black doctor's son was born deaf and the parents argued about it who says tv teaches you nothing :p)

And that is why our wedding is a surprise.

I'm off to look at FB as I haven't been on in days.

    Hello! XXX
I didn't invite my Aunty to avoid arguments and I really regret it :(
Its YOUR wedding so tell everyone else to keep their opinions to themselves and be civil to any guests they have issues with, they can argue any other day they chose just not your day!
