She will be 18 in September, so almost 20 when she goes on the trip. We've suggested she look for a job, we'll wait to see what her mum comes up with first I think, then we know what sort of money we're talking about.

Hope you're all ok and babies/toddlers are ok :) I may have to sign off shortly as C is stirring a little.........

  • Krystal- thanks for your link on milk donation earlier. I've emailed my local milk bank to find out about donating. It's only 10 minutes down the road from me so hopefully it will be possible.

well I asked KH to pay for some of DD2's trip.. it is £175.. but as he pays £90 a month for all 7 children I don't see why he shouldn't pay a bit towards this as well.. just over £12 per child a week is hardly reasonable IMO.

I would have suggested she look for a little job as well.. a bit of working for what you want isn't a bad thing.. and looks good on a CV too

Krystal - it's more the principal of the thing than the money. Her mum gets all the tax credits and benefits and DH pays her every month too. Her mum hasn't got a job and has never worked, and we don't want DSD to think that everything she wants will be handed to her. It's just money for the deposit she wants, she says she can fundraise the rest as it's a charity. There is another DSD who is 15. I know if DH told her we couldn't afford it then her mum would moan about it, yet can't get off her own backside to get a job. I'll shut up cos I could rant forever about it!

i find this all very confusing lol! i know your OH feels guilty but as he pays all that and on top of that she is 18 so really could be earning herself i wouldnt be happy to pay!
i have this with my mum and step dad too! my mum works get CB,WTC, CTC and maintenance even though my step dad has her half the month?? he still has to pay half of the school trips and i think its unfair!
What's for you won't go past you

Oh, and she told her boyfriend what we said about the money, and said she'd hoped we'd give her a figure, then she could get the rest. Err, nope - see what your mum has to offer first!

Pigpen - £90 for 7 children??!! Wow he gets off lightly! DH pays £250 for 2.

caz - if he pays maintenance he shouldn't have to pay half of the school trips. He's not legally obliged to pay any more.

It's the £30 EMA that bugs me - I didn't even earn that much at 18, now they get it just for going to school!

Thankyou for your views ladies, I'm signing off to go and have a coffee and watch tv for a bit whilst C is still asleep. I'll be glad to get my lappy back!

    Night all xx
