3 - Sorry, don't think I could come and meet you! It's a 3 hour car journey from where I live. It's because it's so out of the way out at the islands and there are probably no main roads and you have to drive around so much of the land because of the water! If you were stopping over in Glasgow or somewhere, I could possibly meet you though.
Looking on the map of where that is, if you roll up to the next land mass above it there is Loch Fyne and Loch Gilphead... I've stopped off at the first loch on the way to the second... We stayed at a place called Stronachullen very near there... An epic journey, but well worth it!!

It does look an epic journey .

4 hours for the first 242 miles to Glasgow, then 2 hours for the last 60 miles on dirt track road and ferry trip.

I am 70% sure that people on here have said that dripping a little bit of breast milk into the eyes is good for newborns gunky eyes, but not 100% sure so maybe wait for someone to confirm or correct me!

Kids grow up way too fast - *insert rolleyes*

Good to hear of the extra hours SM. Sadly no job is safe these days, so wise to have a look about if rumours are going around about employers futures.
  • Has anyone suggested breastmilk for gunky eyes?

Did you see my post yesterday about birth afterthoughts? It's a chance to go through your notes with a MW and understand why things happened the way they did, and why decisions were made at the time. Does your hospital offer anything like that? You might find it really useful, although I'm only now doing it and H is 7 and a half months old.

    .

I did this very thing 8 years after the birth! Like CAFCgirl there were huge chunks of time I couldn't remember at all, but as my pregnancy with Edward progressed I was getting flashbacks of parts of it. Although it was painful to go through with the doctor what had happened with my last birth, in the long term it was quite beneficial for me, and resolved some issues which had bothered me for a long time. I think its not uncommon for mums to blot out traumatic labours and this is the reason why the service is offered. However, this is perhaps the kind of service which might go when the departmental spending cuts are announced in the autumn, so maybe it would be better to do this sooner rather than later, in case the option isn't open for much longer?

Oh no, just wrote a massive post then the comp ate it :(

    Quick round up -

Massive congrats Mel, gorgeous baby, gorgeous name and a far too gorgeous mummy!

    Hugs for Caz, xx

Hugs for CAFC, xx I feel much the same about Guy's birth, I've no real memory of it as I'd spent 4 days being induced with no sleep, so slept through most of it. The one thing that sticks in my mind is the look of utter horror on OH's face and crying when I first saw him because he wasn't breathing. I spent the first 3 weeks agonising over being unable to go into labour and birth naturally, not seeing him for his first hour and being unable to breastfeed. I beat myself up about it so much, and it's taken til probably now for me to realise it's all secondary, I have a beautiful, healthy, happy little boy who I love more than anything, and that's what counts, my inability to labour doesn't matter to him :) So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it does get better. But do try and talk to the mw/hv about it all, and see if you can read your hospital notes so you can get a clearer picture of the events iykwim?

Really hoping to meet some of you in Manchester next week but currently hanging in the balance, fingers crossed!xxx

p.s. sorry for flying in and out again - things are mad in real life at the mo, need to get the house cleaned now for a viewing, will try and be back soon.

I know not everyone feels like this, but I honestly see birth as the thing I had to go through to get my amazing little boy. For me it's not a rite of passage or a sign of my womanhood.

GISI - you posted something like this a while back, about how you didnt neccesarily have the birth you wanted but it was yje birth that got your gorgeous little boy here, and it stuck in my head. I kept repeating it to myself after I had T and was beating myself up for the way it had gone and it really helped me to come to terms with i all. Just wanted to say a big thanks :)

CAFC - please sit down with your dh and talk it through, maybe he could help you write your birth story? Also if you have any close enough friends tell them all about it too.

LOL i think i need to move thomas up a size with his sleepsuits, just looking at the one he's wearing, the bit that should be on hus heel is halfway along his foot! Luckily it's a loose one so he'll be ok in it for tonight :o
