hello! a little update from weezl
I managed to speak to a SALT, and said I wasn't sure whether I should be concerned or not. They asked me if I wanted to self refer, but I wasn't sure. She asked a few questions and said that he does sound delayed
But she gave me loads of things I could do, I'll list them in case anyone is interested:
1)simplify my language, 'not 'where's the ball?' or 'Oh ball gone!' but just ball.
2) repetition. Say it absolutely loads of times 20-30 times in a single exchange, even if you feel daft.
3)start with the sounds things make, like 'woof' or 'miaow' cos that makes sense, rather than the word 'dog' why dog, could just as well be called 'table'
4) offer choices so he has to give some kind of output, ie not just give a drink when he makes an 'i'm thirsty' noise, but hold up milk and juice so he has to announce his need in some way.
You're probably all clever mummies who've thought of all this naturally, but I thought I'd post in case you're like me.
Anyhow, I need to try it for 4-8 weeks and then get back to them if he doesn't seem to pick up.
Bit sad now, but have strategies, so that's good isn't it?

That's a positive step forward Weezl. I think Nicki's point hit home for me earlier...if there is a possibility that there is something 'wrong' (for want of a better word) then why not get it checked if someone is offering to refer you.
And very helpful for her to give tips too.
FWIW when I am practicing words with Benjamin (we chat in the car on the way to/from the CM) I always start with the words or noises that he is good at/likes first.
So he used to like bump best - so I would shout 'BUMP' and either Benjamin would join in or I would say 'Say BUMP!!' until he got the idea and then I whoop and clap him for being clever. We do bump a few times and then move on to 'BALL' or whatever.
I am a very clappy, cheer-ey, Yay-ing kind of mummy so lots of noise works for us!
He won't say bump anymore!! So we start with kissing noises (and actions) instead
I never offer choices though - my greedy boy would choose both :rotfl: Will have to work on that one.please listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

Just been across to the Drs for clinic to find a sign saying from 7th June baby clinic is mondays and thursdays and the health centre down the road  How very dare they move from a 1min walk to a 15min walk to the other side of town, what's the point in that!! now I have to make an effort to get my baby weighed instead of nipping across the road
I'm lazy
Sami I went and weighed William on weds and that was the first time since Apr  didnt think people were bothered so much with 2nd one... how often have you been going?
Weezl - I agree with MFD that it sounds a positive step and good basic things to start...Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
Glad you spoke to someone Weezl...Number 1&2 on the list is what I focus on, like when he has finished his lunch/dinner etc and starts stropping to get out the highchair I repeat 'gone' and 'out' about a million times.....
I hope you feel better having something to work towards:)
Thanks for the thoughts on christenings....When we did the older two we booked a hall around the corner from the church and had put food on, it had a bar so people could get drinks if they wanted to. It was actually quite a nice place but has since been knocked down!!! I'm not sure if I wanted to do anything qiute so big this time, but don't really want to have a do at the house.
I will keep thinking......and dh is flaming useles he keeps coming out with random stuff like, 'don't invite anyone', 'Book Anfield function rooms', 'have it in Cyprus'!!!! and other such nonsense...so it looks like it will be down to me as usual to find something suitable.Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -

Hello again everyone. I introduced myself 7 weeks ago when Thomas was first born but have barely had a spare minute to come on here. I have been missing my online chats so have been making the effort to get my butt off the sofa (daytime tv is frighteningly addictive!!) and start doing my feeds upstairs on the pc.
We're doing really well and I love being a mummy, but we've been having a few sleep issues of late. Bit of a shock to the system as T used to fall asleep in my arms after his 10am feed then sleep until 7.30 with a night feed at 4am ish. Now he seems to be really wideawake until 1am, then wakes at 6. I've started doing his last feed in the bedroom with only his night light on to recreate night time but it doesnt seem to make any difference. Any advice?Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -
Glad you've got a plan of action Weezl xx
Hmm, I would like a charm bracelet, but don't know whether to go for the classic style or the pandora style? Decisions decisions!
Well, Elena had her first taste of nursery yesterday as I had to go in to sort out some paperwork. I left her in the baby room for about 40 minutes and she was the bestest girl! No crying at all, lots of smiles for the staff, and playing with toys. She even ignored me when I went back in to pick her up, and offered to share her dummy with one of the staff :rotfl: She's going in for a 2 hour session each day for the rest of the week, so we'll see how they go, then an afternoon and morning session next week.
*proud mummy alert* she now weighs 22lbs, and is 69cm long. Her favourite 'words' are mama, dada, and nana so her nana will be well pleased with her when we visit again soon

 Hi Gill. Not sure on sleep tips as Alfie is pretty good. We have a relaxing bedtime routine - bath, boob, bed - that we stick to and keep everything dark and quiet at night feed. Seems to work for us. Glad you are enjoying being a mummy
I am too.
Squishy my pandora bracelet arrived today and I love it! If you register with http://www.unforgettablemoments.co.uk/ you get a code for 10% off (I ought to be on commission :rotfl: )0
