Marriage certificate perfectly legal. My Hubby also took my name after marriage and Passsport office changed his passport with no problem after seeing our marriage certificate. It really is easy in Vegas. You can go into any chapel or Hotel. After the service you will see many brides and grooms walking around Vegas. I must admit I thought I might feel abit embarassed but it was great. Planet Hollywood was great for our wedding feast but for everyday meals I recommend the Circus Circus Hotel for its buffet, they have fantastic food at the best price, its all self service just help yourself to whatever you want.

Hello all. What a useful thread (i've been meaning to start one along the same lines - sorry for butting in Mr Kennedy, let me know if you think i should shove off and stop interrupting your thread!).

No problem the more questions that i have forgotten to ask is better for me, that goes to anyone who has anything to ask.

I know this sounds cheeky but was the approx amount you spent? And a break down would be very useful just so that i can get a figure and here can plan without feeling ripped off or relly cheap might sound alarm bells.

    Thanks

We got married at The Little White Chapel in 2001 (March), weather was wonderfully warm. We stayed at the Monte Carlo, it cost about £25 per night, but we up graded to a suite for the last three nights (1st one being our wedding night ;0)). Getting the marriage licence is really easy, you just fill in a form at the County Court (by freemont street) and take it to wherever you choose to tie the knot. DH actually organised our wedding and it took him about 2 days (we were going to go to Gretna Green but it was too complicated), so it just shows how easy it is!!!!

We also had our wedding meal at the Stratoshere which was fantastic (albeit v expensive), not that the expense mattered, as we were leaving DH had to stall me as he (and our best man) had organised a limo to give us a tour of Vegas, so he put some money in a slot machine and WON!!!, all in all our wedding cost us a bout £100 in the end after DHs winnings were taken into account.

We never registered our wedding in the UK (didnt know you should), but havent had any probs getting my passport etc change with our marriage certificate.

For a spectacular hotel you cant beat the Ventitian IMO. Have fun organising your wedding, but you might find you can bring it forward as it really doesnt take long to sort out.

We should have paid $325 USD when we married at the Las Vegas Wedding chapel five years ago because we wanted extra pictures, but the guy said since we'd flown all the way over form Scotland he'd give us it for the basic price of $250!:money: And no, we didn't negotiate a deal. Booked online, was a lovely ceremony, felt very very special to us and we didn't have 100 people watching us wondering what meal they were getting that we'd have paid 80 GBP a head for!! You keep $7 from your holiday spending to send back to the US to get an original marriage certificate- yopu get an interim until the Clark County Courthouse has dealt with all the paperwork.Have had no problems with officialdom at all- most people want to know how the wedding was in Vegas.

We went for a gondola ride in the Venetian afterwards in full white frock and dh had his kilt on. Lots of passers by were shouting congratulations and best wishes, others just smiled warmly at us.:D
At night we went to see Penn and Teller as the end of MArch seemed to be a quiet period for big shows/acts that we could have gone to.(not into Seigfried and Roy at all!)

I'd do it again tomorrow.and the next day.and the next.Especially the Grand Canyon day. Or maybe the dawn hot air balloon ride. Alcatraz was cool too:j

For our 5 nights in Vegas, three in San Francisco, helicopter and boat tours of the Grand Canyon (West Rim-unmissable) and all our spending money, outfits etc we didn't spend more than 5000GBP, the holiday itself was 2200 because we stayed at the Venetian and the WestinSt. Francis in SanFrancisco, so it was pricey.

    our holiday was this:

We flew with Virgin holidays had 5 nights in LA, 4 nights in LV and 4 nights in San Francisco. Total price of holiday was £1800.00 between us and this included all flights, car hire, car insurance and hotels.

Our total wedding package was about £300.00 (but we did choose a more expensive package) this did include grounds for one hour, ceremony, photos (digital) limo, flowers, the marriage licence was about £30.00

We then booked a meal at the Venetian for all of our family, this included three course meal, private room hire, drinks, toast etc for nine people £220.00

We then stayed at the Venetian on our wedding night for £120.00 although I am sure you may be able to get cheaper rooms, we just wanted a bit of luxury! (Forgot to add the Virgin package had us in Cicus Circus, wouldn't really recommend the place hence why we chose a different hotel for our wedding night)

Then just add on the extras petrol, food etc, normal spending money.

In total we spent about £3000.00 between us which is a lot for a holiday but we considered it worth it, as you only get married once and it is still a shed load cheaper than getting married in the UK, plus you get a holiday to boot!

We travelled in April which was a lot cheaper than other times of the year and the weather was perfect, on our wedding day the temp was about 27c which was extremely bareable especially if you are wearing a suit/heavy dress.

I think any hotter and I may have passed out!

Thats the sort of figure we had in mind and really want to do the Grand Canyon and Hover Damm.

It's gonna be three years as still have a few things to sort out around the house and gives us plenty of time to sort it out to a tee. Well it might be in May so its gonna be 2 years 9 months :D

But need to sort out a date and get a night booked over here for a Saturday and some of those are 2 yr waiting lists. Also we both feel we will be the right age then 27/28.

Also we are gonna carry the Vegas theme back here at our party with Elvis Impersonator (and gonna be hard tracking one of those down thats good) and Blackjack tables.

Thanks again for all help and ideas

    Jenittels,

Nowadays when being posted abroad you can get a married person's allowance even if you are common law partners. Haven't done a posting since then, I was earning too much money to give it up and take a few grand extra on his wages (We are talking a few years ago now), then kids came along etc, gets more and more difficult especially if you are concerned about their education. So my answer to you is that you shouldn't have to prove you are married, and your Vegas certificate will be fine to change your passport.

Having said that I do not know which branch of the civil service you refer to. I am positive though that you won't have a problem because you were married in Vegas. Where are you being posted to, anywhere nice?

I got married at "the little chapel of the flowers" in March this year - Just me and my wife went and it was absolutly amazing - Our family watched live on the internet back home - I would suggest booking direct with the chapel as everyone else put there fee ontop - We stayed a week at the luxor the flew for a week in cancun (virgin holidays do the package) - We used the photographer as the witness (you only need 1 in vegas) then we went to the paris hotel for lunch after (sat outside opposite the ballagio fountains) when we got out of the limo in our wedding gear we got woops and cheers from everyone - It was an amazing day - GO FOR IT.........

Kazd, thanks for your reply. In truth, OH is being posted to vegas!

But if i want to work over there then his department policy says we have to be married as my visa would need to be a derivative of his. We're planning on making a trip over to vegas before the posting to scope out houses and jobs for me and I want to use the same trip to get married. We haven't got the posting in writing yet and so can't make any arrangements or get TOO excited, but I can't wait :D
