  • Well apart from being shocked at some of the posts by the non cat lovers among you, I might have a few suggestions...

There are various different ways to cat proof your garden which not only protects your cats for the nasty people of the world but also would save you from upsetting your neighbours further.

It doesnt have to cost the earth and if you do some research then you will be able to find the one which is right for you. Have a look at Katzecure, Secura cat and Purrfect fence websites for ideas.

I have a neighbour who lured my beautiful abysinnian girl over to them then hit her with a golf club or such like which shattered her leg in 5 places which resulted in a £2000 vet bill. Some people are just intolerably cruel to animals.

    Good luck with your cats

  • For some reason, after living next door to us for over 8 years, our neighbour has decided he wants to take action to keep our cats out of his garden.
To this end, he put pointy wire stuff alongside the fence which divides our garden.
My son went round to tell him it wasn't on and we bought some rubberised pointy stuff and gave it to him along with the sonic cat scarer (which we originally bought to keep our cats OUT of our own front garden for their own safety and which didn't bother them at all!) and a large water pistol.
I don't think any of these things are going to work but neighbour claims to have some success in his back garden by placing mirrors in the area.
It isn't even a cat poo issue, he seems to take exception to one of our cats sitting on his car engine. The fact that the car is parked directly in the sun and is metal and cats like warm places to lie seems to have totally escaped him!

Going back to the question about the electronic cat scarer, we bought one of these for my MIL as she was getting neighbours cats digging in her flowerbeds.

Yes it sorted the problem out as the cats avoided it not liking the sound. There was no harm caused to the cats. I'm a cat lover unlike my MIL, I wouldn't have bought it for her if it would have harmed the cats.

Thank you Redfraggle and i have heard about these fences but seeing as our joining fence is only 3 ft high and mesh it will be a problem, so will try and sort out higher fencing first, & yes there are a lot of non cat lovers and its awful what someone did to you cat :(

Thanks for that Slinky, i have just been reading more about them on Amazon and i think if they position it properly it wont go off when the cats are in my garden, im scared they wont use there cat flap if it happens when they go near it, youve put my mind at ease thank you

Moth balls are supposed to be a good deterrent, buy them a few packs from the pound shop. Apparently the cats don't like the smell.
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.

Oooh I will try that to keep the terror from using my posh seagrass boxes as a scratch post!

Orange peel is apparently a deterant but it hasn't worked for my cat.

Clancy, I think it's trial and error for you until everything dies down for you :)
