I can understand why he is so upset, as I get the feeling they are his pride and joy, and at that late stage in life, he probably doesn't have a lot else to live for. Plus, really good racing pigeons can change hands for four-figure sums of money. I wouldn't really blame him if he billed you for every pigeon your cat killed. I know I would be absolutely irate if someone's cat (or dog) killed my chickens, and my response would probably involve a gun.
To all those outraged that he wants his pets safe, put yourself in his shoes and then see how you feel.
My OH would be very irate if a cat killed his birds, as you say they are probably his pride and joy but he should be prepared to meet you in the middle to try and sort this out, killing your cat isn't the answer!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
You sound a very resonable person and responsable pet owner. I would be horrified if he has bought a cat trap. As I said previousily some areas look unkindily on the keeping of pigeons as they can cause health risks so I would maybe look into that.
He does sound very unreasonable , although I can understand he is unhappy his pets are being hurt he is no better by offering to kill other peoples pets, and not participating in trying to work out a solution. At least what the cat is doing is a natural hunting instinct what he is doing is sheer cruelty.
I would definately phone the rspca as maybe they will give him a talking to .Good luck.0 -
it can't only be your cat that kills his birds though surely? is yours the only cat in your town?
what trap is it he's put down? isn't it okay to put a mousetrap in the garden? it wouldn't kill a cat but could do serious damage, but is it actually against the law to put this kind of trap out?52% tight0 -
It's in cat owners' best interests to keep their cats out of other peoples gardens.
The neighbour is protecting his pigeons and good for him. If the cat doesn't go in his garden it will not get trapped.0 -
I think cats do have the right to roam and if you phone the local RSPCA they will give you the facts on this. We have a neigbours cat that comes into our garden and chases the wild birds we feed and although horrible they are natural hunters. We have noticed though that the cat doesn't enter the garden where there are rambling roses or the Pyracantha bush as she doesn't like the thorns. We did have a cat problem digging up the garden so when we prune the roses we lay the stems on the garden and after a while it stopped the cats at that point. Might be worth a try planting a few thorny bushes your side of the garden.0

As far as I know,it is only farmers who are allowed to kill an animal worrying their livestock. The police might be interested in his threats, then if your cat is mysteriously killed ,they would have reason to question him.
Shocked me as I would be devastated if that happened to our cat.0 -

Ever tried training a cat :rolleyes:So many posts, so little sense0 -
Seal all the fences and flood the garden to a depth of 6 feet.
Cats hate water.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.
I would rather drown with you than watch the surf with someone else0 -

That's a few less of those flying rats. Good on your cat!
As for the neighbour getting nasty. You get nasty too. Lots of loud rock music. If you don't like rock music, the Red Army Ensemble are pretty loud. Any rubbish, never mind your wheely bin, whittt! over the fence into his stupid garden. If he catches you doing it, tell him you are entitled to dump your rubbish there, because that part of his garden is actually YOUR property. To buy or not to buy, need not be in question

This wont exactly help with neighbourly relations! as for racing pigeons being "flying rats" they are pedigree birds worth a lot of money:mad: .They are innoculated against disease, it is only the wild street pigeons who are vermin.
Glad I dont live next door to you!Do what you love :happyhear0
