For everyone fighting gyms, or about to get into an eternal contract, try your local YMCA if they have a gym. The Bath one is superb, all the kit, extremely friendly and helpful, always people there to advise, and you pay on the day when you go (or a cheap membership with simple get out no problem). And it's not all gym bunnies looking cool, it takes all comers. In my eyes, it is an honest and upfront way to run a gym, with fair terms and good value - at least give them a look if you have a local one.

I was waiting for a one post wonder.

We are not idiots, please don't insult us. Plainly you are a representative of Gymphobics and not a customer. You are not the first person to think of the tactic of pretending to be a customer. Some how it seems that the more dodgy a business is the more it likes to put up faux satisfied customers rather than deal with the customer's complaint or just take it on the chin.

    Go away.

I completely disagree with this post. What would a post have to say to convince you it is genuine? Just because you don't like this gym or whatever doesn't mean anyone who claims to have a success story is lying or is an owner of one of them.
I only started the gym a couple of weeks ago and so haven't had any measurement/ weight loss stats to speak of as yet but i thoroughly enjoy going and have spoken to many women at the gym who love it and have similar success stories, including a work colleague of mine who has had fantastic results, so don't jump to conclusions. In any gym/diet etc you will have people who do and don't like it. Lay off of them.

    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • The credit crunch arrived and I could no longer afford my gymophobics membership amongst many other things so I wrote to the manager advising I could no longer pay my membership as I had no spare income at all, he responded that I could not cancel it as it was a contract for 12 months. When I was signed up I was led to believe I was signing a gym membership form and was told "not to worry if I saw Debit Finance on my bank statements as they deal with the collection of the membership payments". No mention was ever made that it was a 12 month finance agreement, it was all a big rush to get you signed up. I was about 3 months away from the end of membership year so Debit Finance chased me for the remaining balance, each time I always respond I dispute this debt, they referred it to another debt company who after being told I disputed the debt said they could not collect on that basis and referred it back to Debit Finance. It has been quite some time since I have heard from either company and I have my fingers crossed that they have just closed the matter down. If they get back in touch I will again tell them this debt is disputed.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I signed up to a Gymophobics gym in June last year.

I was shown arond but did not take too much notice of the facilities, I assumed that when they said changing rooms and shower, they would be adaquate.

I also belived that I would get lots of support and encouragement.

After 2 weeks I found out that this was not true and I tried to cancel my agreement. This request was declined and I was told that I as I signed on the premises I was tied in to my contract for a year.

I have paid £174 so far and have not returned to the Gym.

What a waste of money, but I have no choice. Or do I?

    Please help if you can

so aren't the showers ok then? I was thinking of joining?

  • Im about to start the process of cancelling my membership due to financial reasons and was always told that with a months' notice, i could cancel it at anytime!

Though i did think it was weird that i had to write to Debt Finance to do so. Fingers crossed it all works out now.

I had some brief dealings with this company, I visited but never signed up, and got the impression that they didn't have a clue.
The manager didn't seem to know much about fitness, could not find exercises that suited my situations, seemed to make it up as she went along.
Got the impression that the gym was too small to fit in enough people.
    Never joined.
