I have read on similar forum topics like this that people can cancel a gym membership with fake doctors notes, or by saying they can no longer work so cant physically pay for the membership or are moving out of the area etc, was wondering if maybe giving one of these a try might work trying to get out of this particular contract? any ideas?0

How can you come up with a wild comment like that!!!!!. Can I not join in this post? How dare you!. Do you go to the gym then.It is clear that the lady who started this is not getting the service that I am.I do not work for this gym or any gym come to that.I really enjoy my experience, sorry you dont like the facts!!!!

My local gymophobics told a colleague her resting heart rate is 200bpm... I didn't say anything but surely she'd be dead if this was the case??
I recommended she go to her GP for a chat about it !Kavanne

Hi
A lot going on in this thread, but I will put in my bit!
I am a full time trainer with over 20 years experience, and I also hate gyms! I work outdoors, hire small local venues and have an online booking system.
Most gyms over promise and under deliver getting you you in with deals etc and generally have some contract, but it sounds like you have mis-sold the membership, you could fight it or go to the FSA, local press etc. Failing that, ask for a settlement figure and bite the bullet and get out. But be nice at first, remember you are probably dealing with someone who is always being shouted at!
Most large chains or franchise gyms are much the same in terms of lots of kit but poor service with staff who are low paid. Everything is done from a head office and you have to negociate company policy and it is hard to talk to decision makers.
A few points to consider if you want to get fit.
1. Look for small independents. usually they offer really good service and are very personal. They offer simple and honest membership terms.
2. Get a trainer. Might seem expensive, but you don't have to see them every week. Go by word and mouth, not by advertising. It will save you money and time in the long run.
3. Look for trainers in outdoor locations, village halls etc. usually these are the best trainers around as they are confident and successful enough to function independently of franchises or chains.
4. Get a couple of friends together and hire a trainer. Much cheaper and much more fun.
Hope it works out for you.

Thankyou for your input! i do feel like i have been mis sold the membership - what i thought i was signing was a form for a direct debit, i was actually told that but it is actually a credit agreement, i feel as though this should have been mentioned. I know i should have read it through properly and i signed it so i dont have a leg to stand on so i am not going to make excuses for it. I am just frustrated that i have stuck to it and seemingly made no progress.. at the end of the day i just want to improve my fitness. I guess i will just learn from my mistakes on this ocassion at least now i wont be making this mistake again. thanks for your help!

Not really helpful that is it - didnt really come here to have my "ethics" picked apart but whatever, if you're not going to be helpful you dont really have to reply, or do you not have much better to do?0 -
