O2 Home Phone. Warning .

When you order telephone and broadband, you get the phone activated first and broadband activated days or weeks afterwards.
Just wondered (enquiring mind) how they would put the cart before the horse and add/transfer phone services to an already live broadband service. Do you have to do without a service for a few days??0 -

I would assume that the switch over to home and broadband will happen on the same day, a straight switch over with minimum disruption to your services so you wont go days without any service
just pick up the phone and ask o2 who can answer any questions you have0 -

At the MOMENT it is definitely NOT an MSE idea to sign up to both (which you can only do on the phone).
INSTEAD sign up via a £back site to o2 home BB (that assumes you have a BT based phoneline) and blag 70-90 for Std/Prem/Pro subs.
THEN once order accepted/tracked get your MAC from your existing provider and pass it on to o2 so you get ADSL migrated within 5-10 days.
At that stage if you are keen on the o2 Home Phone ASAP do phone up and bolt-it-onto your o2 Home BB; otherwise bide your time and hope/pray for a future deal or assess whether others better value or not.
If you don't have a BT based phoneline then o2 are going to charge £85 to connect it up (and wouldnt accept an o2 home BB order by itself anyway - hence £back opportunity is available); and you can find cheaper elsewhere - eg BT offer £30 but only IF you commit to their call package for 18 months! (ie save £90 on connection, ie put £5/m towards the monthly rental/call chargesl).

Another tip for those who plan to take up O2 Broadband in order to get the O2 home phone service is to pick up one of their "takeaway" router boxes in an O2 store if you see it for £15 on a promotional offer. You are given £30 credit for this when you sign up to O2 home BB - so it's effectively cost you minus £15.
I'm paying £9.50 per month for O2 Home Phone - and getting the free evening calls after 6pm.
When I spoke to the BT Retentions department about my intention to move they advised they were unable to match the deal I was getting with O2, notably on the £7.50 per month broadband, and gave up without a fight.0 -

A half-price box MIGHT save you £15 but it would mean you could NOT have signed up via a £back referral site - and at the moment that is £70/£80/£90 £back for the desirable LLU packages - ie it's NOT a MSE idea to lose £55-£75
Even if you don't like £back sites at today's date you can phone up o2 and get your first 6 months free from o2 (ie guaranteed) using

until Sunday 2/5 - even that's a lot better than buying the box at a store, though never as good as getting the £back at today's level.
The find a half-price idea is only MSE for o2 Access (ie NON LLU package) sign-ups - and not many people would wholeheartedly recommend doing that.

Mmmm decided NOT to add 0844 and 0871 into my comparison as there is no obvious 'typical' band rate for those numbers, but in fact dozens of rates depending on what comes after the 0844.... and 0871....
I wonder if the OP has grounds for the particular g9/g15 rates compared as they don't seem THAT typical in the number lists.

Yes their are a number of different price bands but the 0844 G9 numbers mentioned by the op and the 0871 G7 range mentioned by Heinz are the most popular probaly because they earn the most money for the company/organisation using them.;) However it doesnt matter what range is singled out O2 are still ripping people off that need to dial them.0 -
NO I would NOT advise doing that unless you want to miss out on upto £75!

I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of these cash back sites - too many stories of delayed payments etc - and prefer to deal direct with a retailer, as it's easier to sort out issues if anything goes wrong. I wasn't aware of the Metro offer - but you are rather overegging it - as everyone gets 3 months free, and the £15 bonus I refer to would be equivalent to a further 2 months free of the 8Mb service anyway.
I took advantage of the in-store offer to also get £20 off their Joggler, so I'm quite happy with what I've ended up with - and the fact it's saving me £15 per month over BT.0 -
Both my O2 broadband and BT phone line contracts are reaching their ends next month and I was probably going to stick with the bb and add O2's telephone to the mix. But reading this has given me second thoughts.
If their engineer were to miss an appointment with me, could I charge them £130?0 -
That's the standard charge for an Openreach call out-the same would apply whichever retail provider you used.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
