hey pookie you must be fairly close to me! we're near walton on thames.

vickie you have inspired me to plant some of my bigger runner beans which are getting to0 big to keep indoors. Like you say, if no more frost - great, if not, i've got some just germinated and can plant some direct in the ground.

We're off to plymouth for th B.H. weekend to see the in-laws. I'm already fretting about what I'm going to do with my plastic greenhouse - obvoiusly I will have to leave it unzipped as it'll get too hot, but with temps forecast to get down to about 3C on sunday, I'm going to have to bring the tomatoes, french and runner beans, and maybe some of my younger flower seedlings in. Doh!! Hopefully everything won't dry out... I will cry if anything dies!

Hey morg_monster, I am! Worcester Park area, not too far from you.
Do you have any empty plastic bottles? If you pierce a couple of holes in the cap and put them upside down full of water, they very slowly drip out water. Enough to keep them going, but not enough to drown them. Hopefully that will keep them going while your away.

    Hi

Have spent some of today fighting a small war against snails. 3 in my potatoes and 2 in my onions then after I had cleared them out and zipped up greenhouse found one on the plastic door! Cheeky so and so. The best bit of my day was seeing how big my courgette plants are now, nearly 2cm high on my window ledge. Shame my runner beans aren't even showing yet. Planning courgette bread already. Has anyone else braved the spring weather today?

Nope been hiding indoors, too wet to venture outside ... don't you just love bank holiday weekends :)

I've got loads to do as well, need to get the runner beans and raspberry canes in and got a huge amount of weeds that need pulling out and I'm sure all this rain is only going to encourage them :rotfl:

    Hi Everyone,

I'm in Sunny Bedfordshire. I have been gardening since I was little (well helping my mum) and have had my own garden for 3 years now.

    This year I have:
    blackcurrants x3
    Tomatoes x2
    onions
    leeks
    broad beans
    dwarf beans
    runner beans
    cabbage of some description
    brussel sprouts

I have also recently sown some courgettes and sweetcorn on my windowsill though don't hold out much hope for them. Oh and I have some tatties to plant out... probably too late for them too!

I have not had any luck growing pumpkins or squashes, and very limited success with carrots. I think my garden is east facing (gets morning sun) - could that be the problem or is it the soil in my neck or the woods? or am I just a bit rubbish?

    Evening everyone,

Well that was a bit of a bank holiday wash out but today I have managed to plant 4 runner beans and 2 raspberry canes in the garden. I hope they're going to be ok.

I've also sewn some cabbage and leek seeds in the greenhouse, hopefully I'm not too late getting them in.

Now I think it's time for a bath and bed.

Hope you've all had a good weekend

I'm in the South East corner of the M25.

This weekend I had finished removing the stump of a tree that was planted to close to our house. With the stump gone I was able to implement my planting plans :
I planted 12 lavenders along a pathway to our front door and kept the blue theme by planting some herbaceous perennials in our front garden at the newly created front border.

2 clumps of blue irises, 2 blue lupins & 3 blue agapanthus plants. All arranged symmetrically between a 5ft cordyline & a 3ft chusan palm. Should look great next year when they're all settled :)

Also transplanted some foxgloves, forget me nots and bluebells from my backgarden to really hammer home the blue theme! I'm not very ruthless & find it difficult to kill 'weeds'. I tend to let lots of foxgloves self seed all over the place as food for slugs (we have a pond and frogs).

I don't really use my garden for 'growing my own', but I like to use perennial plants so that they last forever and save me money in the long run compared to buying annuals.
