Ok have just removed a snail from inside my potato grow bag and slugs from my onions (how do they do it!) and noticed that something has had a nibble at my potato leaves. Saw one little greenfly could this be it? How can I get rid of those any ideas? Dont have any bug spray and not too keen on adding chemicals if I can avoid it.

If there's a few you can squish them with your fingers, if you don't fancy that or there's growing infestation then you can spray them with soapy water (water and fairy liquid type thing). If you have a spritzer bottle that would be good, if not you could always pour it n gently if the plant is only small.

Although I didn't think greenfly nibbled, I thought they sort of sucked the plants if that makes sense lol. :)

Must have been the snail, they nibble leaves.

Thanks guys, snail is now deceased as we have a lot of birds in our garden (courtesy of the apple tree). Have sprayed weak liquid solution just incase there was more than 1 greenfly.

lol...don't say things like that, my head will get too big and I won't be able to fit through the patio door to water my plants!! :D

Glad to help, although by the lists of things people are planting, there's definitely a lot of people with more experience on here than me....I guess the difference is I don't have so many plants to tend to so pop on here too much. ;)

I have some pots on the patio that I'm going to get planted up - I bought the compost for them over the weekend and I hope to get started in the next day or so.

We have just been allocated a 5 rod allotment, so I'm eagerly reading this part of the forum at the moment. hoping to get some ideas!

I have some tomatoes, peppers, courgettes and runner beans started off indoors and I'm now putting them out during the day time.

    Hi Guys,
I'm in Worthing and have just started gardening in earnest. We've been really busy and sown 5 varieties of tomatoes, 6 varieties of salad leaves, courgettes, cucumbers, chilli's, peppers, cabbages, broccoli, brussel sprouts they are all growing away nicely in the greenhouse. Along with 5 different types of flowers.
Outside we've planted onions, red and white, garlic, shallots, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, spring onions, radishes, sweetcorn, a gooseberry and a redcurrant bush. We've got potatoes planted up in an old dustbin and stawberries in my tower of terror :D
When we moved in we inherited two apple trees a cooker and an eater, a pear tree and rhubarb.
We're still waiting to plant out runner beans and a couple of raspberry canes kindly donated by my Mum and Dad.
It's all been a bit trial and error, the onions and garlic were planted too deeply, the carrots and parsnips seeds were sown outside too early but ho hum you live and learn and if only half of it grows we'll be more than happy.
The main problem we have is although we dug over the garden and removed the worse of the weeds there are still a lot growing back through, as we're fairly new to gardening we don't know what are weeds and what are actual plants so we're having to wait until the veg starts getting established and hopefully recognisable before we start ripping stuff out :rotfl:
