  • If someone preferred, I could start mentioning ALL the Serious Untoward Incident Reports I had to deal with whilst working in the department.

Or shall I stick to the ones that made it onto the CEMACH reports? Or the ones that never made it anywhere, because the files were stashed in the back of the office, under lock and key whilst the Petty Cash was left on the desk?

Or the ones where I had Registrars sobbing in my office because the midwives had not bothered calling them until the babies had been without a heartbeat for over 45 minutes, and then had told the Head of Midwifery that the Registrar had made a mistake?

Or the ones where I had to dash up to the mortuary with a pretty blanket and wait whilst the technician retrieved the tiny bundle with so much delicacy and care, knowing that the mother was crying alone because the midwives didn't want to deal with the woman with a dead baby?

I met one good midwife, superb in fact. But she was in the community, as she couldn't stand the staff in the hospital.

Never met a useless doctor in the department - one was a bit rubbish at the patient chat, but stick him in an operating theatre with a woman bleeding out and there was always a happy outcome.

Some flyladies have had babies - strangely enough, I think that makes us perfectly qualified to have opinions of the people we have encountered. Perhaps the number of comments should suggest that MWs have a hell of a lot of improvements to make, rather than getting defensive about justified comments.

If I had been responsible for anything so unpleasant or traumatic, I would deserve to be slated across the internet 500 times a day. You personally may be greatest midwife to ever walk the Earth, but believe me, some need instruction in basic medical checks, never mind the safe delivery of babies.

    ***********

And - breathe. I left that job for a damn good reason.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I dont remember mine, is that bad?

I actually wanted to be a midwife, so there:p

there are good and bad people in every profession, and we are quite entitled to talk about them if we like

I don't really remember mine either, it was 6 years ago and they gave me loads of drugs:rotfl: ETA My community midwife was lovely.

As you say there are good and bad people in every profession. The amount of time i spend in hospital with LO from what i see the good outweigh the bad:A

I think i missed a couple of birthdays - Happy Birthday Lamewolf and i know there was someone else but i can't for the life of me remember who!

Back on topic, mainly S&S'd and did some dailies today as i have been out at uni doing revision. Need to go empty TD and make a cuppa.

Ah, I see Thursdays list is up. (Thanks, Pigpen)

I'm feeling right overwhelmed - one day off, and I'm totally unable to catch up.:(

We decided on washing my hair this evening, as that's a task I simply cannot do unaided; I'm sat with it dripping down my neck now, and Mr LW is prepping veggies for tomorrow night's dins (he'll leave them in a bowl of salt water) so that I don't take my fingers off trying to do them myself.

I'm just too tired to do any more tonight. BD biting my ankles.

Jojo.. There are so many improvements that MUST be made, it is beyond need now.. which is exactly why I was very honoured last week to havebeen asked to sit on the committee with the health authority to discuss ways in which they can improve the service. Ongoing education for the medical staff is my number 1 priority.. it is all well and good having qualifications but if they are 20 years out of date they are mediocre at best. Apparently I was 'chosen' because I am not afraid to say the things that need to be said, I'll ask those hideously awkward questions and badger for an answer. hopefully someone, somewhere can make a difference... already we have implemented change in the appointments system and many issues with staffing levels and assistance for families with children with disabilities.. would you believe there is nowhere in the entire hospital here with a hoist so a disabled older child/adult can be changed.. they have thousands of beds and hundreds of portable hoists but nowhere private to use them!! It doesn't happen overnight.. but in the last 4 years we have seen a lot of change. I've heard stories of dead babies being transported from one hospital to another in a holdall in the back of a taxi because the HA refuse to pay ambulance costs to transport a tiny dead baby.. absolutely horrific!!

Hi all, not got a huge amount done, lost my favourite chicken last night so I was a bit upset.:( I was working late so didn't get in until 8.30ish, she was in a bad way and went of to chicken heaven shortly after....we made her a soft bed to drift off in.

However today we got three more lovely bantams who are sweet and gorgeous.

    DW x 1

    washing brought in.

New cheeping chickies in bed, tucked up by me.:D

Re midwives, mine incidently was absolutely lovely...I had two. I was a traveller who initially lived in a tent then a truck, eventually a caravan. Nothing phased her, my care was amazing, she brought her wellies to the site every visit and was defensive re my care with some more narrow minded health professionals. She was joined by her student who also was amazing, kind, informative and attentive.

When the time came, I had 27 hours of labour after weeks of intense braxton hicks....and the result a 9lb baby [STRIKE]lump[/STRIKE] girl :D.
They negotiated on my behalf that I could stay in hospital for 5 days so I had use of the toilets....bliss...and showers. :happylove

I have never forgotton just how supportive and brilliant they both were, if there was ever a time when I needed a Mother....this was it....I don't and never have had a Mother...not a decent one anyway....they both were like the mother I never had and I always remember them and thank them from the bottom of my heart for their treatment and care. x

DD's ceiling now painted, just need to do a second coat tomorrow. It is looking very patchy at the minute, i hope the second coat does it.:)
Hubby started the glossing in wee hall but didn't tape the whole thing up so decided he shouldn't paint.
My hall is so so ropey, the ceiling isn't straight, the walls aren't straight near the ceiling as they slant. The ceiling has alot of cracking from the building work. Now i remember why i said i would never do that place again. Looks like i'll be patching it up tomorrow.

Me thinks it's time to head for bed.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.
