Is there a law that states how long a car part should last for after MOT?

It does depend on how far the part ha travelled as well?0

Its travelled 14000 miles so not exactly excessive.1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110

If it was replaced for the last MOT & has failed this MOT surely its still under warranty?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

The mechanic who did it, probably didn't use the right jubilee clips which has probably come off the boot and probably damaged the joint
I replaced my cv joint myself over a year ago for £35 and it still looks good as new0 -
Sometimes they use cables ties, OK on some cars but others dont have sufficient clearance. And in certain conditions will contact the housing & get damaged.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

a split boot will fail the MOT,had it loads of times on many cars
OP.you can contact kwik fit however you should really give them the opportunity to rectify the fault than get this garage to replace them
a CV joint should last longer than 12 mnoths0 -
A split boot will not be under warranty, as it classed as "Accidental" damage.
This sound like a typical "Kwick Fit-up"!0 -

yes yes i know a split boot will fail but what i want to know is on what basis are they failing the cv joint because after 20 years as a technician i have never known a cv joint to fail an mot
also having done more than 12k miles kwik fit will not cover it0 -
Doesn't matter what Kwik Fit say - the law says it should last a reasonable period up to 6 years. The law doesn't say 12000 miles or 12 months. If there is a dispute then either get in touch with Kwik Fit customer service or the area manager (I had an issue with Kwik Fit once and the area manager sorted it within minutes). If they know you know your rights they'll be less inclined to fob you off.yes yes i know a split boot will fail but what i want to know is on what basis are they failing the cv joint because after 20 years as a technician i have never known a cv joint to fail an mot

Also option of a letter to Kwik Fit giving them a period of time to put it right or you'll go elsewhere to have the work done and look to them for the cost (i.e. small claims court).0
