Is there a law that states how long a car part should last for after MOT?

I have the CV joint changed on my car during it's MOT last year (kill me now I had it done at Kwikfit!:().
Roll around MOT this year only to find the same CV joint needs doing! The mechanic that did it had to double check our MOT from last year as at first he didn't think it had been done last year, he then told us they must have used the cheapest possible joint they could get their money grubbing hands on (my choice of words not the mechanics!).
Now we got our MOT done a week early this year and I remember something like this happening to me a few years ago (same car part interestingly) and I got the money back for the part as it didn't last the full 12 months, but I can't remember for the life of me if that was because of a guarentee that the original garage had on the part or if it was some thing to do with the law.
Does anyone know if I have any come back from this where Kwikfit are concerned because I'm thinking it may be that the part wasn't fit for purpose if it lasted less than 12 months?

Kwikfit are a bunch of cowboys, wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even change the part.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I had my CV boots replaced at Kwik Fit (I knew the centre manager so the price was right and the mechanics were pretty on the ball too) and just over a year later they still look like new. No evidence of cracking/splitting or leaking grease. The CV boot kit came from Unipart.
It should be easy to tell whether the rubber is new or old. That is probably why the MOT mechanic thought at first it hadn't been done.0 -
CV boot was split.1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110

Parts should have a 12 months warranty ... if not, you've been had. If it is over 12 months, its hard cheese I'm afraid.Genie

Is that by law though? It's a week under 12 months at the moment so if it's by law I still have come back.1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110 -

Might be tricky now that you've had the bit replaced. What you should have done was take it back there and then. It's worth trying, but I doubt they'll honour it now that you've had a replacement fitted somewhere else.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.
