Sadly in these days of totally dependance on the computer, it is a question of getting a algorithm to cater for both readings rather than someone with basic arithmetic skills.

BG had a real problem catering for my system when they moved to the new computer system, which is surprising because there must be many thousands like myself i.e. E& meter but on a 'normal' 24/7 tariff.

    I can imagine why.

The Customer Relations guy passes it on to Operations, thinking it's a simple software change. Operations pass it onto Tech Support, who pass it onto the developers, who then says it's a fundamental relational mapping issue, requiring a major upgrade, involving porting the entire customer database from the current relational model to the new one which caters for non-E7 multiple meter relationships.

The live computer system is sized to cater for daily running, with a 40% spare capacity in case of peak load. The conversion must therefore be done offline on a hired system. They then realise that they don't have the capacity for parallel running old and new database for proper switchover. The total bill to implement non-E7 multi-meter functionality is therefore in the region of £20 million.

The director of IT therefore chucks it in the bin and forgets about it.

Six months later, a telephone monkey rings you up, and says "We recommend that you change your meter to a standard one."

If you intend to stay with BG on another tariff you just need to tell them and they will switch you immediately without penalty.

If you intend to move to another company, then tell them now and you won't pay a penalty for leaving and they will put you on their Standard tariff untill you leave.

thanks ive sent in my opt out form will confirm with them that theyve put me on the standard tariff then switch
