Seriously, can anyone say when things will be ''back to norma''l?. My fabric comes in by boat and lorry so no worried there but I do need to get my export orders delivered (so I can be paid) and, in fashion, it's all done by air freight.
I think the answer to that is: things will be back to normal when the Government thinks there is no risk of an airliner going down with its engines seized up by molten glass and spoiling the General Election for them. So, after the General Election.
If then, because possibly the other volcano is going to join in, and then all bets are off.
In your place, I would be trying to think laterally. Eg club together with other firms, charter a small boat to Spain or Morocco, and fly your exports on from there.YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)0 -

One route might be to hire a lorry/driver to take it down to Spain and fly it from there.
Are we talking small van, transit, 7.5 tonne or bigger wagon?0 -

Worst case is it get's cancelled (unlikely as it's 3 weeks early scheduled delivery date but a possibility if no flights for a month) and I sell it direct retail instead over here. Shame as I love export as it's no VAT.
The order is being delivered in 3 parts and this part is only 7 export cartons....but the buyer is now stranded over here too....so understanding of the situation.
I don't think it will affect clothing so much for importers if it only lasts a week....then a bit of backlog. Watch prices soar on the High St if it is a 4-6 month cloud though as much production will get done in Turkey or in UK instead as stock levels will need to be maintained somwhow.0 -

Just had a thought....my delivery is with loads of other deliveries for the same customer......he may be sorting out alternative transport as I type.0 -
:kisses3: My lovely customer is going to pay me 50% anyway......he is a great customer as he also pays us 30% deposit when he orders.
Guttingly did a bit of clearance to another part of US and he wants the lot as sold out the trial range in 2 days....can't get it to him until things catch up. Spoke to freight company and there is a huge backlog and perishables will be given priority once flights resume.
Checked out all my supplies today and everything is shipped so no disruptions to UK sales at all. *phew* as things are going scarily well right now and just typical bad luck for us to have a big blip that's out of our control.0 -
People can't get avocados? How will we ever cope?
Some people need to grow a pair, and rediscover their British "spirit"0 -
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

Anyway, everyone will either be pleased for me or exceedingly annoyed that I have secured a disgustingly midle class quantity of avocado pears (they only ''pair'' I think I'd like, I don't really thinkgrowing testicles would go with my boobs) and calmness reigns here. I would have coped otherwise, but frankly, cooking for hysterical eaters with various bizarre ''allergies'' lack of carnivorousity and contrary religious requirements along with people who demand meat to feel well fed....its a night mare...
My local Lidl has loads of rock hard avocados at the mo. You have to buy them a month in advance as it takes that long to get them to ripen. In the winter I gave up as they sat in our freezing 1940's style kitchen on the stone shelf and just went black instead.
I should have stuck to swedes.:o
Good luck with the party LIR .....you feeling OK now?0
