Broadband & Telephone needed - which company

Hello.
Just moved in with my girlfriend and want to get Broadband and never had to sort this out before. She currently doesn't have a telephone connection either. She was with BT.
I am not after great speeds or usage allowances.
I have seen Talk Talk but heard there are loads of problems getting signed up etc. With them would I have to get a line through BT first or do they sort that out?
Which company would be best. Postcode is SA14 ***
Thanks

TalkTalk either gets a great review or an terrible review.
From my experience its been great, landline switched quickly, and my broadband is being activated 7 weeks ahead of schedule, and is going live on Thursday.
Apparently they do limit P2P usuage, but the extent of that varies person to person.
From my expereince i have recommended TalkTalk, and my grandmother recently switched to Talk1 from TalkTalk to save cash, she too had no problems switching.0 -

So how long did they say they would take to get you set up?
Do they start charging you from the moment you registered with them or the moment you went live?
Do I get line through them or got through BT?0 -
You still have a BT line, but you pay the line rental to TalkTalk, its £11 a month, but you don't get free caller display, that's £1.50.
I registered on the 15th of July, our line rental went active on the 26th of July.
Broadband was due to go active by the end of September, and its going live on Thursday of this week.
If you already have a broadband router, you don't need their Modem they offer, so you can save the £30 "connection fee".
Also I'm getting my first bill on the 13th of August, so 28 days after the date I registered.0 -
If you have no phone at the moment, you need to get BT to enable it, as you aren't in a cable area, now if the phoneline has been used before either by your girlfriend or someone before her then there is no charge to switch it back on, if it's the first time it's ever been used then there is a charge of over £100.
I certainly wouldn't recommend TalkTalk, I would recommend avoiding the jokers at all costs.
It's never wise either to have anyone else other than BT billing you for line rental, you prevent yourself from making savings.
You are also tied to BT for 3 months or 12 months if 1st time phoneline, though you can usually pay your way out.
I'd go for BT line rental, CPS calls to Primus 2, then use 1899 and 18185 for calls not free on Primus 2.
Maybe now is not the right time to be getting broadband, maybe worth waiting for a while, as more deals are on the way. Though Primus offers broadband, and the AOL offer isn't too bad.
If you want reliability, good customer service, then steer clear of TalkTalk. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Thanks for the help guys and Gals.
There used to be a BT line but she cancelled it. I will check out Primus 2.0 -
Also what speeds are people gettng with Talk Talk?0

When I was with them I was getting extremely poor speeds, and disconnections 20+ times an hour, downloads would crawl at 0.5k/s and that was if you were lucky. Many times there were DNS lookup problems, so you would often get page not found, though I changed to using Pipex DNS and that helped, their email is ropey, though it's always best to have your own domain with pop3/SMTP email, their newsgroup fell over a year ago and they haven't got around to getting it back up, so I doubt they will, web browsing at times was painfully slow.
When I was Pipex before and after TalkTalk, I never had any problems whatsoever, no disconnections, no slow browsing, email and newsgroups were fine. Though now I am with Telewest for broadband and they are excellent. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Thanks for the advice I think they will be last resort.
First I need to get the line with BT back on so I know which companies I can go with.0
