hey, we got 12.125 cubic meters, but i would check as you may get more due to having two kids (ive only got one). we did not bring sofas, beds or dining table and had loads of room left. Dining tables are decent, same as beds. only thing wrong with sofas so far is they just dont compare to my old ones lol.
A little tip is to stock up on summer clothes, sun cream (in the end of season sales as ur coming in nov) and tolietries. Although you can get them here, they seem expensive at first, then you get use to it (apparently). Also a decent garden set (not a glass top table).
If u have any more questions feel free to ask, ppl are very helpful on hereSaving for the future 1 penny at a time0 -
aaaaagh i just bought a glass top table a couple weeks ago, will it be ok if i cover it when its not in use? or keep it in the shade? we are planning on bringing the sofa as its a sofa bed too and we figured we will prob need the extra room for guests.basically i wanted to take almost my whole house
but im guessing the allowance for overseas is less then a uk move?

Barbie,
I have a round glass table for outside, and its perfectly fine. Just gets dusty like everything else out here.
Good idea on the sofa bed, we brought our sofas with us, but plan to leave them here (sell them).
Also, we bought an Intex Queen Size Air Bed, one that is full size (£50 delivered) for extra guests.
If you really have extra space to bring things, then i would throw in some 12,000BTU portable air conditioning units if you house does not have air-con fitted. A 12,000BTU unit here is about €280-400 new, so even if you bring them and dont use them, you can always sell them on during the start of summer (May-June).
The other one is to bring some push bikes, €450 here in the naffi for a mans bike, €150 for a £75 halfords bike from carrefour.
Then just toiletries, we packed our washer full of washing powder, we put quilts in the dryer, we also put shampoo & mouthwash etc into the fridge for more spaces.
You will need some summer sheets too, so just a base sheet and a normal sheet over the top, the rest of the year is quilts really.0 -
I only suggested not bringing glass as we were told not to due to the apparent hail stones. only going on what i was told ;0Saving for the future 1 penny at a time0

ok so really i cant move my whole house over
we are thinling of leaving our bed (its a super queen so MASSIVE) but bringing the boys beds and bedroom furniture.
also are the kitchens mainly big enough for a double door fridge freezer(side by side) we are not bringing a dryer as we plan on getting a new one while we are their, but would like to take the dishwasher and washing machine.
and this will sound really stupid but do we have to take all o/h's kit? like deserts/greens? or can we leave them here??2010 wins: cadburys cream egg ball, £30 voucher, micropet, wii newu game, micro-chips x6, doritos chips & dip, koala x2, Eylure goody bag , Fanimal x2, Jaffa cake goal posts x2, ST IVES SCRUB,puddle puppy x2,football x2,vest &tshirt, picnic hamper, mascara, pink wig, rimmel sunshimmer,0 -
We sent kit that wasn't needed immediately over in an MFO box - might take a few months but it will arrive eventually!
We bought a huge american style fridge over, washing machine, dishwasher and sofa bed and as many children's toys as we could manage including their bikes. We were way under our allowance, but did use vacuum bags to shrink down bedding and 'winter' clothes soft toys and coats. We were advised not to bring expensive outdoor toys as they deteriorate in the sun, as does plastic furniture.0 -

I would ditch the single beds, and the bedroom furniture. Chest of drawers and single divan beds are issued as part of the house on the forms you fill in.
I would recommend bringing a new condensor dryer with yourself, as the prices here are a little extreme. £200 in the uk, can be €400 onwards here.0 -
We are possibly moving out in Sept. 2011.
We would have a choice of housing of Officers quarters at Epi or Akrotiti. Does anyone have any photo's of inside a quarter? Or even of the new Officers quarters at Akrotiri?
We had a look around the outside of some quartes in Epi but it's so hard to get a feel for what they are like inside.
We have 2 children who will be 7 and 4 by the time we moved, would anyone care to offer an opinion on whether Akrotiri or Episkopi would be best for a family with young children? DH would be working at Epi but is happy to commute.
Thanks in advance guys, this thread has been so incredibly useful!0 -

I'm currently at Epi and have been for the last year or so. IMO Akrotiri is better for families with much more going on around the base, bear in mind the kids are bused upto Epi for schooling.0
