Barbie,
You dont get a choice in your housing request, you submit the forms and the Housing Office (Barrack Warden) allocates you the best quarter available at the time. They will tell you this if you ring up and ask.
At the minute, there are 4 types of house available at akrotiri -
Grade 1 - New houses - Gas Central Heating
Grade 2 (maybe 3) - Newishy houses (built 2002) - Gas Central Heating / Air Conditioning
Grade 3 - Gas Central Heating
Grade 4 - Stone Houses - Nothing
Grade 4 - Bungalows - Nothing
The bungalows are slowly in sections being demolished to be replaced with new Grade 1 houses.
Let us know what house you are allocated, and we can go from there..
Regards,

If you look at https://www.hivecyprus.co.uk there are lots of information sheets and some photos. There should be floor plans of some of the accommodation too.
We don't have CH and it does get cold in the winter months in the house - you tend to put on a jumper when you come in and take it off when you go out!!
We have a log fire , and we were issued with stand alone gas heaters, but we gave them back as we have two little ones. We do use the stand alone electric radiators. You pay for gas bottles yourself, but the electricity charge is included in your quarter charge, and you are only charged extra if you go over the 'average' usage (although what the average usage is is kept a closely guarded secret!!) but we haven't had an extra bill, and we used the radiators enough that we weren't cold over the winter - although we did put our children together in the smallest bedroom during the winter to keep them warmer as we weren't comfortable leaving the heaters on overnight.
The best thing we bought though was an electric blanket - the bed gets very cold even if you can keep the room warm, and it was lovely getting into a warm bed even if the room was a bit cold!, and we've got wheat bag toys that microwave for the children.
Seems silly talking about being cold when the weather is heading for 30 deg this week!! :rotfl:0 -
Hi there,
This page on the Army Families Federation website might be useful to you. On the right hand side there are Factsheets/Downloads on what to take, pets, driving etc etc - http://www.aff.org.uk/aff_cyprus.htm

Barbie,
If you're moving in in November then, bar the rain on occasions, it will seem like bliss - and you'll have the chance to get used to the heat. You'll be walking round in tshirts and wondering what on earth people were fussing about - talking about how cold it is. BUT when you've been there for a summer and have experienced 40 degrees, you'll see how cold it can feel on a chilly winters day with no central heating.
I had 2 years in Cyprus and although I like being back here for the shops, I miss the sunny weather - would LOVE to be in 30 degrees right now, rather than 8!!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

When you arrive, you should get a free car to drive around in. Basically the dealers give you a car to use for free, which when you are on your feet, you take the car back and buy a car from them.

I don't think so, I think it has moved to a new building.
Hope you have a lovely time - very warm here at the moment, weather approaching 30 deg!
There was an article in the local paper about a couple that used to live here and visited recently, and they were surprised at how much had changed - even to the point that they struggled to find their way there due to new roads!0 -
