You have To Love The BBC and EA - Spring Bounce

Housing market sees spring bounce, estate agents say :rotfl:

The number of people trying :rotfl: to buy or sell homeshas picked up in the past month, according to estate agents.

The number of potential :rotfl:sellers rose in March to its highest level for six months, the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) said.
And the number of prospective :rotfl:buyers went up by 7% last month.

The NAEA said spring had brought its usual increase in activity, and suggested :rotfl:sales would improve in the coming months.
"Spring has finally arrived and brought with it a much needed boost to the housing market, particularly among sellers," said Gary Smith of the NAEA.
"This figure has been low in recent months and this is a welcome indication that reflects a growing confidence that the recovery is well underway." :rotfl:

Encouraging signs
Earlier this week, a survey by the the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), some of whose members also work as estate agents, reported that the number of people trying to sell :rotfl:their homes last month had reached its highest level since May 2007.

According to the NAEA's survey, the average number of homes for sale at each of its member's branches rose from 56 in February to 60 in March.
At the same time, the number of house hunters registered with each branch went up by 7% last month, to 274 per branch.
Sales have also risen, the NAEA said, from an average of 6.8 per branch in February to eight last month.
The NAEA said all this was encouraging, especially with more sellers around.
"This month's figures reveal an increase in the levels of housing stock with more properties available for sale per branch - the highest value recorded over the last six months," the NAEA said.
"More house-hunters also registered their interest. :rotfl: With the bad weather now behind us buyers and sellers alike are returning to the market with a renewed vigour," it added.

Oh and look they even have a woman pointing at a picture of a house :T

I get the feeling the EA are under P and trying their best to paint a pretty picture.

Why not just focus on the factual bits if you don't like the rest?

And vendors, seeing a 33% uplift in sales in a month, and prices up over 10% since trough, were too busy laughing all the way to the bank to care.....

I think we all know that estate agents will talk up the market, as it's their job to do so. People who own shops will talk up retail, financial institutions will talk up the financial market and mobile phone makers will talk up the communications industry. Where's the surprise?

If you want to debate the bias in the piece then wouldn't it be better to discuss the stats?
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), some of whose members also work as estate agents, reported that the number of people trying to sell :rotfl:their homes last month had reached its highest level since May 2007.
You've put a rolling, yellow, smiley face next to this one. Is that you saying that RICS are lying? What's your evidence for this?
National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) said.
And the number of prospective :rotfl:buyers went up by 7% last month.
Again, a bit more than a smiley face would help discussion. Do you feel this is innaccurate? Or is your opinion that a 7% increase in people looking at houses won't translate to sales? Why would you think this is the case?

You say that you're too busy 'laughing at the spin', but everyone knows that industries talk up the market they are in, it's a given.

Of course when all this translates into increased volumes and sale prices doire will be back to let us know he made a massive mistake here, just like all the other times.

    No, wait.

Doesn't increased supply generally lead to a fall in prices? Not sure what is meant by recovery.

10% UK average based on very very low transactions. Hamish ever thought of getting a job with the BBC?

Does anyone else think that the use of multiple :rotfl: 's is the internet equivalent of hysteria?

I am minded to say that if the mere mention of rising house prices induces hysterical laughter and gibbering in a person, then it's time for that person to cut his losses and jump into the market. Much better for his/her mental health!
