I do think the depth of mattresses are thicker than they used to be and it could be with memory foam etc on top. In hotels they just use a flat sheet and tuck it under - no fitted sheets necessary. HTH.0

You can solve this problem by sewing a strip of sturdy elastic diagonally at the corners of your existing sheets, so that the elastic sits under the corners of the mattress.
Edit to say, I've just found an older thread with more suggestions (I knew there was one) so I'll merge this one so that you can see the other suggestions.

Yes, depth of mattress matters. But I also lift the corner of the mattress up as if I'm trying to fold it back (which you can't do), just enough to pull the corner of the sheet over. Easier if there are two of you.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Ours are always a little snug. Kleeneze sell sheet straps that clip onto the bottom and are meant to hold them in place. No idea if they work.Trying hard to remember... I think it must be the depth of the mattress which is causing the problem. I hadn't realised it had changed in recent years. How annoying!
I didn't buy the bed from ikea so that's not the problem but I had heard of that before as they use the Swedish standard sizes, rather than the UK ones.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -

Does this work for fitted sheets or just flat ones? I'm having trouble understanding how it would help.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -

It'll work for fitted sheets. Maybe when I get time I'll take photos to explain

I use the kleeneze sheet straps, seen them on ebay too, more of a nightmare since getting the memory foam topper as the sheets struggle to fit now. I am guessing Penelope's suggestion would work similarly to them http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pack-of-4-Elastic-Sheet-Straps-Holds-Sheet-in-Place_W0QQitemZ120282004753QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120282004753&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318 but probably be cheaper and 'fixed' instead of clipping on.One day I might be more organised...........

That does sound like a good idea!

I have to admit that whilst I have some fitted sheets, I much prefer flat sheets ..... as I worked as a chambermaid when a teenager and I can "hospital/hotel" fold flat sheets that cling to the mattress as if they were tied on with rods of iron!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I also prefer the Egyptian cotton sheets with a high thread-count (400 is nice) and these are far more difficult to get as fitted sheets. They last longer too.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
