Personally I'd go on both holidays as Devon is paid for by your parents so in effect a free holiday.

The Isle of Wight is booked now and although I'd presume that you'd lose your £50 plus ferry money if you'd cancel I'd rather pay the balance and go away. If you get a refund then cancel.

I'd relax when away and come back focussed to start again.

I'm sorry to hear about the car accident. What a bummer hey. It's never straight forward.
I can't be bothered updating this anymore
  • Hi Newgirly - I am in a similar position myself - we are going away for the last week of the six week holidays (also coming back 2 days before the new term starts) and that is a free holiday paid for by my parents (they are paying for all the family to go to France for a week to celebrate their wedding anniversary as its a big one!) - It just seems such a long way off, I have been toying with the idea of booking a little bit of something between now and then - I just can't part with the money knowing that we already have a holiday booked for the end of Summer.
I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with - Its still nearly 3 months away - could you try and raise some money between now and then on Ebay or something - set yourself a little challenge to make it feel easier?

Thank you so much for your input everyone, I stil have not cancelled yet, but rang up hoseasons to see if I could swap what I have paid already for another park and date the same sort of price we have paid already £150. We can change the date but not the park, as its the isle of wight its not a cheap park plus we would need to book another ferry.

I spoke to dh last night, who said he did not mind either way, but he cannot take anymore time off this year, so would have to start the bathroom in the autumn as he will be going in at weekends to work for a while, plus he could only work at weekends on the bathroom.

I am definatly leaning towards cancelling it at the moment, as life would be a lot more pleasant with the bathroom upstair and not sitting in my conservatory.:D

Today I have rounded up all odd pennies and cashback and paid £5.29 off the mortgage this morning, it all helps I guess!

Feeling terrible today, I have got the bug that ds2 had earlier in the week although I'm not as bad as he was.

Perfect timing as dh is at work all day for the first time in ages :(, so a boring lazy day for the boys. DD is going to the cinema, she was going to see pirates of the carribean but in 3d it was £10.50 a ticket (she is 13), and they are only showing it in 3d during the day which I think is disgusting seen as kids go in the day.

Anyway her and her frinds decided it was too expensive so are going to see kung fu panda instead. The first glimmer of a bit of financial sense from my teenager , yay!

I am going to sit around , watch telly and use the laptop.

How dear for the cinema? Crazy. Hope you feel better soon. I hate being ill and still having to sort out the kids. Although yours can probably do some stuff themselves they are still not able to cook and stuff i bet.

And no wonder you got it. It sounded like he was very ill the other day.

Dh has come home early and taken the kids to the park thank goodness as they are very bored with me feeling ill.

Due to severe boredom I have been on rightmove and have found 2 cottages for sale in the village we used to live in (moved 10yrs ago), It was a lovely village with just a cricket green, pub and shop.

We had to move for the kids school at the time as the nearest school was not good. Now I am feeling very nostalgic and want to move back, although with only 2 beds I would have to leave some kids behind.
I also found a great village website with lots of photos of of the place and all the village events.
I know where we are is much more sensible , walking distance to school, direct trains to london for when the kids are older etc. But both dh and I much prefered living there, we actually had neighbours bring us presents when we moved in, we had welcome letters and knitted clothes when the babies were born.

If I knew how to do links I would put one up so anyone else who is really bored could have a look.:D

Oh, apologies for another boring non mortgage related post.

Up very early today, due to a phone call at 7am from dd to say she is awake and bored at her friends sleepover.

I have done a couple of one poll's today and I have less than £3 to go until payout at last. VO screens me out nearly every single time now, so I thought I'd start toluna as I must have joined them but never bothered as I have had emails from them. I need to spend less time reading and more time doing surveys.

I have bought a couple of small xmas presents this week thanks to grabbit, some debenhams jewellry, a dvd game and a giant vaseline tin for dd. All nice and cheap. I also got 6 bottles of shampoo for 49p each at superdrug with free delivery, its all spending but should help in the long run.

Without wishing to upset anyone at this early stage I am seriously thinking about my xmas present costs, I have over 30 to buy for not including dd's school friends, so am keeping it as cheap as humanly possible by hanging out on the grabbit board a lot.

Today we are going to the inlaws for a roast dinner, which I really don't feel like at the moment, I feel a lot better than yesterday but not that good, although it would be nice to get out of my messy house, why does my dh not see anything that needs tidying up when he is in charge.:p

newgirly - I got a christmas pressie in a CS yesterday - but I started in the January sales! :D

I can empathise re the car - I got reversed into by a lorry about 5 yrs ago and the lorry tried to claim I'd driven into the back of him! I was like "I would have had to have been blind to drive, in daylight, into a side road, then see a giant lorry had stopped, so put my foot down and keep going!". My insurers tried to get me to settle knock for knock, but luckily an independant witness had stopped and I got them to read her statement in the end, but if she'd not come through all the repair costs would have come to me

I think people lie a lot about accidents. If I stop and think:

I got hit by a car when I was crossing the road - driver denied doing it so police dropped the case (she knocked me over but no ambulance worthy injuries and she just kept driving).

DH was driving my car and a woman drove out of a side road and hit it - a bit like Pammy's but less serious and hit the front corner only. She kept driving and he had to follow her until she stopped at the school gates and when he challenged her she said she handn't noticed hitting the car! We decided not to go through the insurance as although her kids were saying that she did hit the car we doubted they were going to give statements ;) I was too afraid to make the claim after the lorry incident as that really upset me. I was then left with a dented panel that reduced the value of my car when I sold it later

I don't know how people can do it, I really don't. I actually had a mum ring me up after I gave my details to some drivers who had an accident that I saw when walking down the road. Like your accident it was an inexperienced driver - she reversed out into the road and scraped down the side of a moving delivery van. Her mum tried to convince me that the delivery van was probably wrong, would make a big claim etc and all I could do was keep saying "your daughter made a mistake, she drove out into the van and it wasn't his fault. Why should he get in trouble with his employer over her driving?". I refused to change my statement and told the mum that honestly her daughter was at fault - how wrong is that as a lesson to teach your 17-18 year old kid? If you get caught - pressure people into changing their story

That's bad news about the dishonesty of the driver at fault. Are you tempted to move back to the village? Could you squash the kids in and would your mortgage be less?

Chat away all your like about the C word. I like top be organised. I have a few things already for my two. I keep getting amazon vouchers from surveys and stuff and then buying things to put away and they are in the loft.

No way could i do it if i waited till later.

I am going to be sensible though this year. My sil has been really tight with my two. She spent less than a tenner on the pair of mine at Christmas time, and she didn't bother at all with my birthday or my DS2s. She told me when i saw her between mine and DS2s birthday that she keeps forgetting things this year and blaming the baby, but i think that is feeble to be honest. I hate to be spiteful, but i am going to give my niece a present for her birthday that is something i bought for my DS2 when he was a similar age and it is still in the packaging. I don't see why i should put more thought in when it is not given back. I have no problem with cheap thoughtful presents if they were given to us on time. You can buy really cheap cards for 10-25p, and the cost of a 2nd class stamp, so no need to be tight.

If i sound harsh there, they have had a new car rather than repair their own, and also just had a holiday in France, so i don't believe they are skint. If we were, the presents for others would be ahead of our own treats.

You'll have to keep sharing your bargains with us hon. We might all get some good ideas. :D
