Thanks auntie mabel, i will try and get dd to help me as I'm pretty clueless.
I've just had £3.23 track from tcb so will op that as well today, I get to use my little card reader from the nationwide so I want to keep oping small amount's as its fun!
Have'nt started the ironing yet as have been doing work for dh from home, another hour and I have done double my usual hours this week to catch up. I wish i could up my hours a bit , don't think there is enough work at the moment though.
I had a chat with dh last night as i'm a bit worried I'm going a bit OTT with the not spending. He say's it's ok, although does add a bit of pressure which i can understand as i do moan about money wasting a lot now. For example dd walked in from school this week with a bottle of sports fizzy drink , around £1.49. we live 4 doors from a little row of shops and she could not wait until she got home as she was so thirsty!
It's her money she's spending, I just want her to know when it's gone thats it.
Trying to save money seems to find its way into nearly every part of my life now, i don't want to become a complete bore about it, but we have such a very tight budget that it has to be this way. All these years dh has earnt quite a bit more than he is now and we just spent the lot and more, very depressing when you look back.
At least we are heading in the right direction, it just takes so much extra effort, cooking from scratch, not using the dryer/not having a dishawasher anymore, doing surveys, checking accts all the time, I am not a very organised person and some of these things don't come easily:oMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
newgirly,
don't beat yourself up as you're clearly doing a great job - you've paid £11000 off your mortgage since May 2010!!
But it is OK to take your foot off the gas every now and then, you're not superhuman. Sometimes you need to take a little break and remember life is meant to be fun too
I chastise myself as well about all the money we frittered over the years before we got the MF bug, but you can't undo what's happened in the past so try not to dwell on it (says she who dwells on it far too much than is good for her)
Have a good weekend0 -

Take comfort in what you have achieved so far.
I sometimes think, what if the OH had got fully onboard a little sooner (main earner), we might have been another £10K closer to the target, but you can't change what has already happened.
I'm just thankful that we didn't need to panic when he faced redundancy last year, because due to the overpayments, the mortgage (and household expenditure) was serviceable on just my income.
You are doing a great job. :beer:0 -
Thanks guys, just feeling a bit sorry for myself at the moment.
I have had a good evening, I started making a sock monkey for my grans 80th birthday this August, I'm making her a pair of twin girl ones, with pink flowers on them, and ds2 decided to join me and has started making one from a pair of new stipey socks I bought him this week. We sat on the bed for hours sewing, not the sort of thing my lot like to do now they are getting older, so it was really nice.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I think lots of us get a bit deflated from time to time. Take a break from it then refocus and re-attack the mortgage. Sounds like you had some quality time with DS, time like that is precious.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

i have enjoyed reading your post.
I too am overpaying my mtg (have been doing since the rates first went down years ago- thought well i am used to paying that and if the extra is in your acct you'll just spend it lol).
but did reduce my monthly overpays from 550 to 300, mainly to help fund son1's uni spending rather than from savings (we have been non mtg degt free for some years now and have been saving for uni/retirement). But have twins going in 2012 and trying to keep saving while not dipping in for son1.
Thanks to you though, I joined tcb today. and did some bday shopping for twins bday next month, and did one survey. Over 13 quid will come and all due to you ;-)
Unfortunately, I had already spend over ahundred quid before I joined lol. Better late than never, right?0 -
Hello atush, well done in joining cashback I'm sure you will do well especially with teenagers to pay for! I have made over £500 since joining. Do you have your own MFW diary?
This weekend after trying to do a cheap fathers day I have ended up spending about £55 on lunch today, we decided to cook instead of eating out to save money, we had my parents round so i wanted to do something easy and summery, posh quiches, salad, stawberries berries and clotted cream. It started well, i went to aldi, then i ended up in waitrose  I don't even have a lot left, it was nice though, but it will have to come out of the holiday money we have left that was supposed to be for the bathroom expenses.
I shall try and get bit more organised this week , the last few weeks i've been useless, feeling ill on and off and very tired. I'd like to get up to date with everything so it free's up more time to start doing extra thing like ebaying and maybe trying to tackle the garden junk yard.
Hope everyone had a good father's day.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I have not been very MS today, i've just given all 3 kids the converse trainers I'd bought them as part of their birthday presents.
The boys' have their school prom this sat, and nothing nice to wear on their feet, i did'nt want to buy new shoes for 1 night so thought they would look ok, it's not a formal one just a casual one (they are only 10!) , ds 1 did'nt like his though so i will ebay them , as they were from amazon and only cost £11 on a glitch through grabbit.
DD's however were expensive , but I felt really bad giving the boys' some when she is the one who is desperate for them! anyway the upshot is I really need to get the rest of the kids presents sorted, as they don't have much.
Todat I'm going to bluewater for the first time in about 10 years, I've twisted my mum's arm to come too, I just want to have a nose around john lewis sewing dept. I have been looking at the sewing baskets online since before xmas, so if I find one thats been reduced I might have to waste some money.:D
I was quite good yesterday, leftovers for dinner and even walked the dog to collect the kids from school instead of taking the car, however it took 1 + 1/2 hours , so i won't be doing that every day for sure.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
A Prom for ten yr olds? We didn't have those even in america where we invented school proms lol.
Over here ours have them at the end of yr 11, and another at the end of sixth form.
No MFW dirary for me, I just overpay. And I do sell my secondhand books on amazon (been doing it for about 4 yrs now) to fund buying new books. And now I have started decluttering the house, I listed some things on ebay and joine freecycle( giving away 2 large lots of metal hangars this week) and TCB.
I am mix of spending on luxuries (ie holidays wine food) and saving, scrimping. I bought a lobster a few weeks ago (they aren't so expesive here), a big one, cooked it and have made 3 different meals from it. So luxury and scrimping in one lol.0 -

I walked into the village a while ago (4 or 5 minute journey) and it took me 45 minutes, i've not done it since!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
