Hi Mfd’s thanks for that 🙂 I think I used to find it easier to do that (compartmentalise) in the past with unpleasant events and loss, I think maybe time on hands is not always a good thing if you can be a worrier! Five months is amazing 👏 people may think you picked the hardest time tho give up alcohol especially due to your job, but it would be one more thing sapping your energy when you need it most.Hi greent and SC , I hear you with the rent situation - luckily all are pro active with that so it’s just a matter of working out what’s fair which is a minefield 😱 one working full time in a well paid job (dds boyfriend) Dd still on UC plus contacted for 8 hours a week which is often way more, ds1 on furlough hopefully going back September, ds2 just lost job and signing on, ds2’s girlfriend not working but about to start uni and has taken full loans out to help with living costs (but will not be living in as it’s pretty local). We started originally with 15% of pay but that’s not fair if those not working pay such a low amount and no other expenses. I’ve a few months minimum to work some of this out.Greent, you are eating very well, some good ideas there thanks although homemade bread may be better I can’t keep away from it 😂MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6

I'm not surprised that you are anxious, you are going through a massively stressful time. I heard on the radio that people are recommended a worry time where they are allowed to worry about all the things for that 20 minutes, but otherwise try not to think about it. No idea if it works (or if I've mentioned it before) but might be worth a try?
I don't know how your family works but maybe they will volunteer an amount. From what I've read, you take pride in paying your own way and you've probably passed that on to your kids.6 -
Hi KP, thanks it makes sense, Ill give it a try 🙂 as for the kids I have been debating a family discussion to put forwards what’s fair, might talk to them individually first just incase 😂
Not the best day today, I’ve been bitten on the leg by a spider 😱 inside my jeans. This is already totally horrific if you are as scared as me, however a week ago an old family friend was bitten and didn’t realise, spoke to the doctor who gave antibiotics that didn’t work. So her eighty something year old mum drove her to casualty where they kept her in for six days as she had sepsis and it took a while to work out why - a false widow bite she got sat in a pub restaurant. She fine now, but I’m keeping an eye on my leg just incase 😆
Also managed to have a row with dh about finances for the first time in a really long time! Our blending of the business/factory mortgage money doesn’t always go well when intertwined with the home finances. So not sure what to do about that 🤔 we are happier when he is in control of the business finances and I’m in control of the home ones (including wages 😬) I guess it’s all moot if the money we have is sat in the offset pot for now anyway, but I don’t think he understands how stressful it is when I’m running a spreadsheet and trying to get info. He’s good with money don’t get me wrong but “it will get paid off when there is enough there” is too vague for me, especially as the home mortgage will be relying on the factory mortgage rent in the future as op’s.None of it matters as long as he still has his job and if we need to go into proper starvation mode if he did lose it I could take it back from the offset anyway.
Anyway apologies for the ramblings 😁MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
Where’s the bloodshot eyed emoji? The little darling next door decided to have a full blown party last night in the garden/log cabin where he lives until about 3am, I thought his mum may be away but I did actually hear her yell at around 2ish to turn it down. Covid not an issue clearly, he’s had friends over all the way through. Plans for today:
- Cook a roast for 3/5/7 or 8 people 😂
- See if they have had the Covid test results yet in the other household, it’s been a while and I have loads of food to cook today ☹️
- Look at finances again, if I can talk with dh about it without an argument hopefully!
- Clean bathrooms and do a bit of washing
- Read some diaries and the old style board, set some goals for the rest of the year
- Find out about ds2’s girlfriends surprise 21st birthday zoo trip next Saturday and book tickets if possible (Everybody paying for themselves!)
- Watch a film in pj’s by late afternoon 😬

Hi yorkfella, thanks for popping by 🙂Hi SC, I hope you put absolutely everything there is amazingly fantastic 😬Busier than usual week this week, out for a pub lunch today for brothers birthday, out visiting girlfriends tonight (rain permitting, we have to keep cancelling!) and a few coffees with friends out at various points. Quite nice to be getting out a bit more, although still following all the rules of course 🙂
I’ve had a good look at the finances over the last couple of days, I’ve sent £4K over to dh as half of the first penalty free 10% op we can make this year on the factory mortgage. I should also have £23k in the pot ready to op when the time is right. At a push and without using the money set aside for the 0% cc balance I’ve been running up, we can probably clear it by the end of next year. After that we should be able to draw about £1500pm in after taxes and leaving a cushion. I‘ve also kept back £1200 to pay for the cruise we have booked for April (a big if obviously!) which was less than the refund we received on this years cancelled one.I should really update the mfw challenge figures and also the monthly figures here, I don’t think I’ve done that for a while now 😱MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -

So the last update was May so these “monthly” figures cover three months, we have also had a gift of £12k from my parents which has been a huge help. The work mortgage comes from the rent payment, so the actual input from us feels fairly minimal really 🙄 I estimate our actual real contribution aside from these things is about £12k so far this year out of the £33,779.90 reduction.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5

Well it looks like a big Xmas will be off this year 😢 we thought it may be one or two other households but that looks highly unlikely now since the rule of six. Not so easy if you are bigger family! On the plus side with just the kids/partners we can do exactly what we want rather than make it suitable for all, and way less pressure on fancy food extended family like to have, plus perhaps some Xmas tv which we never normally do.Spent a bit of money from my personal allowance on a couple of Emma Bridgewater Halloween plates this week, expensive but lovely 😊Meeting best friend today for a shopping day out, not so much clothes shopping but more like toiletries from £1land but a bit of normality which I want to make the most of before we get a harder lockdown.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5
