Glad you had a good day. It feels really special to go out to eat now!
Good luck with the meeting, I'm useless at them personally but SC's suggestion sounds brilliant.5 -
Thanks killerpeaty 🙂
On a roll with shopping today, I’ve just ordered the perfume I was after the other day. The fragrance shop currently has 20% off until tomorrow, plus there’s 5.1% on top cashback and there’s a £3 bonus on top cashback today if you click the link, so good savings. I’ve got a small bottle of alien, a couple of small bottles of dkny as stocking fillers and a men’s gift set all for under £40 for Xmas.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
Well I am now officially redundant! I was told I am being let go as the wage bill is too high. I told my very clueless and uncomfortable manager I would like to ask a few questions, the first being who will do my job which took one and a half years to learn alongside the previous version of me 😆 He said all the others will have to learn it, and would I be ok to reach them to which I said no. He was not even aware of the time consuming and hard part of my job which accounts for half of it, never even realised it was part of the process 🤦🏼♀️ There’s months worth of backlog sat there.I’ve said I’ll show dh but nobody else! They are paying my furlough until October which was a surprise but I guess that’s probably notice period and holiday pay anyway...
Dh has one day to let them know if he is happy to take a 20% pay cut and stay full time (part time offer has been withdrawn!) he will also need to get in a much higher target , learn and do my job and ds2’s job as well. Plus ds2 and dh are no longer allowed to do private work on their own machines at weekends as it’s distracting, they will need dh to use his own machines to do their print work which they have now decided they do want to still do.It did not go well basically and dh told them he’s been offered other jobs and is renting a unit nearby possibly anyway 😱 So who knows what will happen tomorrow! I think sacking ds2 and then banning him from practicing there was a step too far for dh and he made that clear.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁8 -
Sorry to hear your news, NG. How typical being asked to train up people to do the job they're claiming is redundant! It must be heart-breaking to see such a historic company founder. Take care xChoose kind7

What awful people. I don’t blame your DH for being riled. Can’t work out who the machines belong to though - the company or your DH/DS2 personally? Surely if the latter what they do on their own time (in such a job) is none of their employer’s damn business?! Grr!
Oh NG, I feel for you all!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Everything belongs to them as we gave it to them in exchange for them taking over and keeping everyone’s jobs, however dh bought a printing machine out of our own money which is there (and they want to use now!) for ds2 to have lessons on and use when he brings his own work in. Dh also has a few other bits there owned by people we do work for who long term lent it to dh personally. So the bulk is theirs but they want Dh to to stay full time now and use his machine to boost their work, it’s daft as they said that side of things doesn’t interest them and they own a large printing company in London anyway. Last week they were happy for ds2 and dh to carry on doing little private jobs at weekends. It all seems a bit petty now!Hazelnutty it is sad, it started in 1895 the other end of the road from West Ham club which weirdly started in 1895 too! My machines I worked on are overlooked by old photos we found when we moved of women in the 50’s using the same machines doing the same thing. We have pictures of rows of men in long white aprons with trousers and shirts on, with a very strict looking moustached gentleman watching their every move, a different world in many ways!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁7

Oh my NG, I think I would stick to your principles and get all of you and the equipment out of there ASAP. Sad as it is, I don't think these people are ever going to play ball 🙁 I'd be tempted to take the photos etc too, they clearly don't care about the history of the company so are unlikely to be bothered, and I think it would mean a lot to you as a family to have that reminder. Good luck xMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Hi sc, well after dh having his say yesterday we may have no choice 😆 The unit dad owns is not ready for months as it’s currently a shell still and needs plumbing/special electrics etc. I think he will stay until the end of the year and then asses everything then probably.I’m going to make a start with something myself in the meantime whatever happens 🙂
Meeting great Aunt for a coffee at the garden centre today, then some gentle cleaning as it’s so hot! Decorating the bedroom stalled as I wasn’t sure about the colour, so after spending ages doing three awkward walls I’ve decided it is too dark and I want it white again. We have white and I can return the large tin of olive for a refund (£26😱) , I’ve spent most of that though as ds1 met up with his best friend from primary school after years this week and his mum has stage 4 cancer, so she has a Facebook fundraising page for a cancer charity. Weirdly dd has just found out her best friend from school who she lost touch with has the same cancer at the same stage too, so sad 😞MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁7 -
Well dh wasn’t sure still at lunchtime what he would do, but he’s decided to stay (for the moment). It’s the sensible choice probably as he can still access the building and equipment when he wants as they only get one visit every week usually at the same time for a couple of hours. Plus it’s an income until the other unit is ready if he does move. So end result of their need to cut the wage bill is getting rid of a very part time new driver, an elderly lady who was retiring anyway and worked one day a week, myself & ds2 sacked and dh taking a 20% pay cut while everyone else stays as they were.Moving in to more cheery matters, I have a Xmas tree 🌲 I went to the garden centre with great aunt and she bought me one I’d been looking at, dh was trying to ban me from a real one this year as he bizarrely thinks it’s a waste of money! the last cut one we had was £70 and the potted ones I looked at were £50 odd and tiny the year before last, however this new little fella was only £9.99 and about 30cm high, so I need tips to get it to 7ft by Xmas please 😂MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁8
