Pay off mortgage and start having fun!

Today I have spent ages juggling the finances trying to see what needs paying for, over the next few months I have so many things to pay out for, I think I have covered most if it though. I am due to start oping again in June.
I am very tempted to order my twins new beds though, their's are very bad, £30 ikea ones which the mattress keeps falling through, I did try and order 2 on grabbit from dreams which were £0 instead of £699 each! Can you believe they cancelled the order though
Anyway my current balance is £150,650.
I'm thinking of just oping £650 in june, so I can get the beds ( sounds a lot but we are still on IO), and then starting in july with a nice round figure of £150K.
I had hoped to stick to my 10 year plan, but with only 8yrs 11 months left and still over £150k to pay there is no way we can afford the monthly payments as dh is earnings are way down this year.
At this rate I will be pleased if we can finish paying when the mortgage is due to end in 11 years from now.
I thought I might attempt an idea i'd seen on here of doing a picture of my house with 150 sections I can colour in as I pay off £1k chunks.Hopefully I can op by a bit more than £1k a month though as that is 12 1/2 years and there only 11 years left on the term!
I have been quite frugal lately except shopping for some of dd's birthday presents yesterday, most of which were primarni , so not too bad.
Last nights dinner for dh was left over bbq sausages mixed with left over tomato and chilli sauce, tonight is left over bbq chicken(frozen first) made into curry witha 9p tin of sauce, and homemade pilau rice.
I've also make fairy cakes and shortbread so far this week for the kids. I spent £40 in aldi on friday, so am hoping it will last until this friday when I'll try and do the same again.Although I did buy in costco last week as well.
Its nice the weather is warmer a well, saves shivering while they are at school with the heating off, and no need for the tumble at the moment , yay!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

That was me with the house. Since we accidentally bought a house the other week & the offset has plummeted the picture looks like it's been repossessed with the lower windows and door boarded up :rotfl:
Yay to left over dinners :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Ah sorry GG , I'm pinching that idea, might have to get dh to draw the house though as I'm rubbish.
Today I should really stay in and iron all day, but I'm trying to avoid being in the house too much to stop me eating as I started the diet AGAIN this week, first two days I've been good though which makes a change.
The boys have a couple of friends round for tea tomight, so I need to get some pizzas and nuggets which is the usual treat, the kids don't like my homemade pizza so i will have to buy it instead. They are going to hang out in the log cabin and play on the ps3 in there, so it will get a proper try out! I am going to ask dd how to put photos on here so I can show you it finished (almost finished really), I am embarrased to say I've only had a digital camera a few months and have never put the photos on my laptop even as I don't know how.:o
I took the plunge and ordered two divans for the boys yesterday, after looking everywhere I got them from an olnline shop on ebay, they were'nt the chapest but had a slide store under and orthopedic mattresses, I got a £10 discount for cash and free delivery so they were £100 each, hopefully they are ok as that seems quite a bit cheaper than the shops are selling at, they will still be a big improvement on what they have now.
I'm cooking a chicken in the sc today, £2.99 from aldi last friday, yesterday I took some homemade lemon cupcakes to my friends for our girls' lunch and my friend said she was getting a bit worried about me keep doing all this homemade baking, it was a joke, but maybe i'll get shop bought next time.
I also did'nt go out for a drink a few weeks ago when we had arranged it as we were spending so much on the log cabin, which I don't think went down well. I don't want to say I can't afford it as for one thing people would not believe that if you are spending on something else.
I guess I am finding it a bit difficult to balance sometimes, when everyone around me spends on shopping and socialising much more than we do. I'm worried that we will end up like dh's parents, who are mf in a nice house even though they have only had low paid jobs, by being super frugal/very tight, and now have no social life and hardly and friends. I don't want to end up like that.:D
I just wish that being careful with money was a bit more fashionable here.
Just read back and this is long and moany post, sorry!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I am similar newgirly so you are not alone. Frittering money away is my main dislike - it is so pointless! Lunch here, drinks there etc.
I sometimes worry my social life is dull but I think that's mainly due to work and family commitments - I have a group of friends (8 of us from school) who hardly ever get together but are really close iykwim. In fact am off to one of their this evening for birthday cake!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
I would just say something jokey back like i didn't know my cooking was that bad.
Or, just say you have spent more on the log cabin than you thought so you need a couple of cheaper months to catch up.
I don't do a lot, but to be honest, i don't want to a lot of the time. I think i must be fairly anti-social. I'd rather have friends round or go to their house because it is pretty hard work at the minute with my DS2 still wetting himself all the time, and the kids messing around badly at times. You want to be less public when it happens.
Was also popping in this morning to see how you were getting on with swagbucks. My account says you have earned me 107 swagbucks from my referral, so i am hoping that means you are doing really well. That might help you rack the points up too if you get someone to join.0 -
Hi michelle, I am up to 148 on swagbucks.
I think I am naturally quite anti social as well, sometimes I feel like going out in the evening but I really prefer to sit on the sofa in my pj's watching telly with the laptop, a glass of wine and my georgeous cat!

Not bad there. That is a good referral rate then for me if people use it.
I think i would make a great grumpy old women. :rotfl:B'ah humbug to them all.I do force myself to do stuff, but like you think of the cost and what i could do instead. I'd much rather be with family or by myself.

I go out every weekend Friday and Saturdays. I only drink Soda water and lime / Blackcurrant and they cost around 35-50p I drink them slowly so a night out cost me £1 or so same for if I meet anyone down the pub for lunchso while others are spending £4 a pint which they will literally p*ss away. I dont understand people that say there is no point going out if they cant get trollied as they are missing the fact that the main reasons for going out should be to socialise, see friends, meet new people, get out of the house, dance, have fun etc etc

You've just described my in-laws perfectly. Do you know them!!
They are just the same, have been MF for decades but are as tight as a drum. But what's worse is that they're miserable by nature with it. Life seems to hold no pleasure for them, and IMO that's when it's all gone far too far.
It IS difficult, especially when friends are spending on things you are currently choosing not too, but spending money on some things that will make life easier/better/more comfortable/fun isn't against the rules either. You're so right when you say it's all about finding a balance between what you're happy spending, and what others may be spending. But just keep in mind that if you're struggling to keep up with the Jones's then the Jones's probably can't really afford it and have put it on a credit card (and not a 0% one!!)
