I'm afraid that I wore it on Tuesday :D

Stressful week so far, I've found out that things are not too great at work financially :( It seems that all of a sudden everybody is quiet. Some of our customers have no work and even our TNT /UPS drivers have no deliveries, I mean the UPS driver has hundreds a day normally and came by staying for a hour and a half this week as he had NONE that morning.

Our factory neighbours are a real assortment - caterers, security, builders, school suppliers , really a mixed bag and all are saying all of a sudden they have no work, one cut his staffs hours by 50% last week.

To put it in perspective we put (staff) wages up just a couple of months ago after waiting until we had a long enough run of steady improvement. It seems to be the brexit effect has hit all of a sudden, at least that's what most of the small businesses are saying.

Personally for us nothing changes until it does if that makes sense :o we have been here so many times before and come out the other side and I'm not willing to halt our lifestyle and go into emergency mode until we have to. We have overpaid the mortgage for so many years partly as work is always a bit of a worry, that now we are in a position that if things did get really bad we could still manage ok.

We will pass through this and something always has a habit of turning up, in many ways it's a very stubborn company- even getting bombed in ww2 didn't stop them opening up :rotfl:

On a brighter I'm off to meet friends for a nice iced coffee, followed by weigh in and then a mooch around the shops with best friend, life's not all bad :D

That does sound concerning NG, but glad you're carrying on as normal - as you say, nothing changes until something changes. It is difficult - they keep saying companies aren't preparing for Brexit, but what exactly can you do, when at the moment even the government haven't got a scooby what the plan is or what it'll look like once it happens?!

Enjoy your coffee and chat :)

Hi vix, you are right there is little you can do except try and get more work in and or cut costs - most people do that anyway though! Although small scale we are a manufacturing business and they are all but gone now with no support from the government :(

On a brighter note I had a nice day with best friend, lunch bought from m & s and eaten in the food hall at the shoppping centre (low calorie after staying the same at WW this week!).

We have decided to do a girly weekend away again this year, this time just the two of us :j looking for somewhere hot and fairly lazy for 3 nights in September. Also we are going to take our other halves for a night in bath for the Xmas market. It probably seems bonkers to be planning breaks but I don't want to put life on hold just yet :o

Spending the day being a "housewife" today, cleaning, washing, cooking, meal planning etc. just need to find a pinney and put some rollers in :D

We have been broken in to

All kids were out last night and I woke to the front door and noise in the hallway at 4am , got up thinking one of the boys had come home worse for wear (they were staying at a friend's as it was somebody's 18th) went downstairs to see someone running out the door with a phone light on.

Rang ds2 to ask if they or a friend had popped back which they hadn't so rang 999. The three of them stood a few doors along while I was on the phone then walked back up to our house , one rolled the van into the road and they took it! I managed to stop dh going outside to try and stop it all as he was getting dressed quickly, the police said don't even try as they could well be armed.

Its actually a replacement van as our work can was in a collision a few weeks ago, they also took my bag and purse (empty as usual!) which I found dumped up the road next to a suspicious looking screwdriver. Forensics are coming later today apparently, to take it all away and dust the front door and hall.

Dh has gone to work now as with a huge transit and keys to the factory , plus no doubt our delivery notes etc. Inside the police said they may well try their luck there too

Now I need to budget for a new front door - and windows around it. We have known its old useless for a while now but it was in the list with everything else :( saying that they do find a way, my parents and best friend have been broken into before and they don't have rubbish doors!

Don't like he thought of them having keys to the house, it really needs totally replacing as it's warped a bit too.

Slightly amused that there were three of them and they left my keys which were next to dhs, they clearly didn't want my car :o

Seriously though the police turned up 2 minutes after it went and were great :)

Edit - not sure why there is an angry face at the top of the page , I don't put it there?!

  • Oh no NG, that must have been terrifying. I’m glad you are all ok, but it sounds like you’re going to have a busy and expensive day trying to make everything safe.

It really annoys me that people think they can just help themselves to what you have worked hard for. :(
  • Oh no NG hope you get everything sorted, look after yourself emotionally too.

    Thanks guys :)

Xspender I hadn't ought about the insurance side of things. Dh has seen the builder at the factory next to our shop and he's changing the locks at the factory today and changing the barrel at home , he's also said he can arrange a new door to be fitted next week if we want.

Its great having someone so reliable to hand!
