I too can’t wait to make our first overpayment of the year! 😂 Mrs. K. has said we need to wait until income hits the account rather than paying ourselves back for the overpayment so will leave it until the last day of the month.

Really pleased to hear about the business. However, quite surprised to hear about your parents choosing the dodgy builder. Rather lucky I don’t have parents dealings with rip off tradesmen though not sure if the arrangement we have is any better... Mrs. K. and I have been roped into fixing a 25 year old tumble dryer and replacing brake pads and discs on a similar aged Daimler Double Six over the next few weeks. :rotfl:

You know you'll love it really Alex (the pads and discs, maybe not so much the tumble dryer!).

Great bargains on the shoes NG!

A 25 year old tumbler must use a fair bit of energy!

Weigh in last night and for the second week running only 1/2 pound off. Ive decided to still go for the weigh ins but drop the point counting and go for calorie counting instead. Found a lovely sweet potato curry frozen meal in Aldi only 251 cals but it was a whopping 10 out of my daily 23 points. Never usually have ready meals but really enjoyed it with homemade kale crisps and am getting sick of being so restricted, therefore often leading to very low eating days followed by overeating on other days. Walked for an hour this morning too :)

Roll on the first overpayments of 2018 hey Alex :D

Went to see the commuter last night which was ok, very late night as we had a house full of boys up late playing poker downstairs, who can't seem to keep the noise down, followed by a cat who as always is up early screaming for food loudly :rotfl:

The petty cash tin has very slim pickings left in it now :( I've enough to pay for dinner tonight- curry with best friend and hubbys for her birthday, but then it's going to be squeaky. Credit card statement is not generated until the 2nd Feb,its usually the first so that's a pain! Food spends up another £13 yesterday £231.53 spent now since Boxing Day.

I've been trying to talk to the kids re their birthdays in summer, they don't seem too bothered about a big party somewhere and the boys have said they would rather another festival the weekend between their 18ths and dds 21st which is bad timing for planned shared treats :o I think that we might pay for extra festival tickets (as well as reading) and then just do a few family bits and perhaps a party or BBQ at home. Dd is also not bothered about a big party and said she will be happy going to the pub with friends.

If this does turn out to be the case, I'll see if they would like a meal somewhere a bit quirky in in London and a few drinks at various unusual bars first. It's a shame as I love the idea of throwing them a huge joint party but it's what they want that counts (even though I was the one doing all the work when they were born :p) They are all quite sensible with money so know that a big party costs the same as a lot of gig tickets or festivals.

I am getting some fancy cakes made though, they won't the stop me doing that :D

Pesky children spoiling your plans for a big party!!! :D

Our eldest 2 are no better, mind. DS1 is 18 in April - he's happy to have a big fancy cake :D but other than that seems unfussed. I have no idea what to get him!! DD is 21 in Dec and will be away at uni on the day, I believe :( and again has no idea/ preference about anything other than another big fancy cake!!! (My children like cake :D:D:D)

It's disappointing greent isn't it, although we should probably be pleased they are not all spoilt brats demanding lavish do's! I hope you get to see your Dd though. I will follow with interest any birthday ideas you have that I can borrow :D

    :snow_laug it's snowing here today.

Was planning a trip to the the cinema to see 'the post' but not sure I want to go outside and get cold.

    Mse things today so far:

    - Warm sweatshirts not high heating

    - home made fake pizza- ie. toast , tomato puree and feta :D

    - joined zizzi's spin to win vouchers thanks to kittenkirst

    - withdrew £4.38 from tcb and will op

    - ds2 found a voucher from sky for £5 inside the sleeve of the it DVD I bought the other day , I will have a look in sky store for a cheap buy or rental.

    - No spend day

I've decided to update January's monthly figures and add the op to the mfw 2018 challenge. It won't get paid until the end of the week but it stops any temptation to spend when I'm very low on funds :o

    Snowing up here too.

Mad Vix: I'd give it a miss if I thought I could get away with it. :rotfl:

NG: I'm sure it does. I know I keep things running well past their best, also. Definitely comes from my parents and people of that generation. School friends' parents weren't like that in general but were younger. Mrs K's parents are younger and don't understand the fix what you have mentality. I remember my father-in-law saying he could never understand some of the old things my parents keep going - he thought it was something people only did if they were very poor.

  • Hehe, at least they haven't decided they want thousands on extravagant parties.

Sounds like a good day though!

Nothing wrong in make do and mending, it's coming back in fashion isn't it now and is better for the planet (aside from tumble dryers I guess!)

Hi Michelle, no big parties but by the time ive made plans for a few nights out it won't be cheap, I've wasted a fair bit of time looking online today for unusual bars and restaurants :D
