There's not the embarrassment of making no effort and not losing at the library ;) seriously though I am quite anti diet clubs, but I wanted to support my best friend who wanted to try.

I think you are right re the food choices Alex, but it's tricky if you like to eat and drink out a couple of times a week, you are really penalised for it. For example last meal out I had one cocktail (a cosmo , so not a creamy huge one) and two small glasses of red, food wise one tiny piece of bread, and a salad which was feta (ate about half of what was crumbled over -about 50g max) tomatoes, cucumber and a few cherry tomatoes.

The other night out 2 glasses prosecco , shared a starter with dh and had a light pizza with salad (main under 500 cals) those two meals have sent me way over my weekly allowance ever though I've been exercising a lot.

The other days I've been having berries for breakfast, salad with one boiled egg for lunch and low cal dinner (always under 300)plus lots of fruit - only because it's zero points and I'm hungry , I feel like compared to what I used to eat its a lot less.

I'm pretty active most of the day too. I just don't want to give up everything. I feel I should be getting better results really and I don't want to cut down anymore!

Oh and yes, it does seem like a lots of meals out and parties here :rotfl::rotfl:

  • I guess with WW and SW there is the possibility that if you eat enough "free food" whatever that may be, you don't lose weight.

With MFP if you don't cheat then you do.

We have just had tentative new friends over for lunch and they eat soo much less than us. Makes you think.

I guess shs, I find I'm just unable to eat meals as easily - being veggie it's just quorn and the odd egg, so boring. Hope lunch was nice with the new friends, on the bright side you get more leftovers when they have gone

So staying with the diet (or not!) theme for today here is todays food! :

    BREAKFAST:

One slice of toast (white but usually have wholemeal , we had run out ) with 2 x scrambled eggs , no milk or butter

    LUNCH:

Left over veggie lasagne, quite a big bit but homemade and not cheesey, nothing with it

    EARLY DINNER:

Cous cous (1/3 of a sachet, about 133 cals) with tiny chopped satsuma, strawberry, blueberry, grape, red onion, cucumber , no dressing

One bottle carlsberg (it is bank hol )

    SNACK:

One glass of semi skimmed milk , 200ml - I never drink milk but thought I'd try upping the dairy a fair bit today.

It's come in at 1450 cals ish, no other drinks except green tea.

I've eaten food I wouldn't usually and do feel better for it today, no cravings for wine and sugar like I would often have too.

I struggled with WW - I don't think it really re-educates you - it's all too easy to eat lots of free veg and then spend points on alcohol. Same for SW really. I've also never understood why it's acceptable to eat a plate full of bananas & strawberries but not something I want which is far less calories (ok - you can do it - but the points/ syn value is often way out of line) I'm trying to work on a calorie deficit of c 500/ day, calculated with MFP (although a faff) and would ultimately like to track macros (although that's beyond me right now! :D)

Still 25lb is not to be sniffed at in any way - well done!

This is exactly what I do. Tracking macros gets easier and you can adjust your portion sizes to make it fit. The guy I follow on social media teaches this and I've learned so much about nutrition. If you're quite active with walking you could probably up your calories and still lose weight consistently. I am seriously getting back to it after our holiday.

Have you tried roast vegetable "salad" with hummous? All you have to do is roast as many vegetables as you like (I do 2 carrots, 2 parsnips, 1 red pepper, 1 red onion and a beetroot for 3) in olive oil and serve with hummous. We have this fairly regularly as a main meal and enjoy it. :)

Lunch tomorrow is chicken salad (prepared in the morning) but we sometimes have falafel (sp) instead which would be good for you and for dinner we are having a jacket potato with smoked salmon and cream cheese (needed to be easy).

You perhaps need to look at the amount you're eating as well as what you're eating to lose weight more quickly. E.g. if we have a meal from the fish and chip shop we share one large cod and a small chips between 3, whereas I've seen plenty of adults eating such a meal alone. Further concerning eating out, if you have an Indian, for instance, share one curry, one rice and a side between two. We make it stretch between three. Same goes for exercise - what are you doing as well as the amount?

  • I am veggie too NG. Eggs are great for protein and cheap (here anyway).

Whoa Alex your roast veg sounds good but a very small quantity for two adults and a growing boy?

No chance of ever sharing with my dh Alex, he eats LOTS :rotfl: he doesn't put on weight though not fair! I do often make roasted veg salad but with the chilli one cal spray and no houmous (love it but gave it up in WW :()

Having Indian I would have a poppodum and veggie Balti, no rice or nan, but I wouldn't share it :p I have to agree with shs, your dinners sound very light for three people, my ds2 can eat an extra large takeout pizza alone and his 28 inch waist trousers are too big

We usually have eggs 2/3 times per week. We do eat meat, so get protein elsewhere too. Really enjoy English muffin with a poached egg and smoked salmon for breakfast, we have this at least once a week and would still be nice without the salmon if you don't eat fish.

The roast veg is really good, smallholding. :) When I say "main" meal, we usually have two meals of a similar size and breakfast.

My wife and I both really enjoy food but Mrs K especially has never had much of an appetite. She's always been like that, according to her family so nothing to worry about.

    Could not forgo rice. :rotfl:

I've no doubt there will become a time when my son will eat more, I have no problem with cooking larger quantities if it is to be eaten. :)

Love be an English muffin, poached egg and a little spinach on the side :D

I've taken a day off work, I've been meaning to all summer but it's been too busy, I'm so tired at the moment , went round a friend's last night and nearly fell asleep :o

Kids don't want to do anything , ds2 has new girlfriend over , Dd at work , ds1 still catching up on resting and Xbox after being at the festival.

I think I'll have a day of either doing nothing, messing about with the finances and spreadsheets and watching GOT, other option is to go to the shopping centre and buy dhs birthday card, cake etc. for Friday , but probably end up in Zara looking at clothes. Descisions descisions.....
