  • A nice target there NG! Good luck!

That was my secondary school motto "Aim high", hearing that every day for 5 years and still its etched into the darkest corners of my mind.

Thanks everyone you are very kind :)

I love this time of year for making new plans, I used to get quite down after Xmas as January is so bleak compared to December. But now I look forward to the new financial challenges :D

Next year a new January challenge is in order, the weight loss started well and then ground to a halt this year so that's a priority, as well as starting some savings pots for general wastefulness (i.e. Me going out every night in December unbudgetted for!) plus worryingly the possibility of dd wanting to Learn to drive the same year the boys turn 17 and will also want to _pale_ not sure I can budget for that , I might just have to sell a kidney :rotfl:

Proper accurate pans to follow in the days after Xmas when I run out of catch up tv to watch :o

Also anyone who does have sky tv, they are doing free boxed sets for 3 months from Xmas eve, log into your online account to check and then click on the advert on the main menu on the 24th , you don't need to cancel I believe they automatically do it for you. It does include the basic package (I'm paying £9.25pm) and if you currently pay for boxed sets you get a credit on your account instead :D sorry I don't work for sky honestly :rotfl:

  • You have done brilliantly this year - nearly £85k in a year is absolutely amazing progress. Well done, and enjoy the new year challenge. Like you, I am looking forward to starting a new page in the spending diary.

How can you even consider Boxing Day lunch without mash though? You will have a riot on your hands.
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Ha ha :rotfl: it's all part of my master plan, don't give them what they want and I might get to spend next Boxing Day eating sweets and watching films next year instead of cooking :p seriously though, my mum is on a diet and will prefer it and dhs parents love Mediterranean food as mil is Spanish.

I'm off helping my parents to shop this morning and getting my fresh stuff, it's always a trial as they spend way beyond a silly amount,
Last year was £250 on cheese alone

    Anyway Boxing Day menu:

Left over meat, turkey, beef, ham, gammon

    Warm new potatoes

Jacket spuds (kids prefer to new potatoes)

    Greek salad

    Roasted veg salad

    Lentil and feta salad

Brussel sprout Coleslaw from m and s

Fancy herby bread funny shaped Thingys from Aldi

    Warm bread

    Homemade cheese twists

    Spinach and feta pie

    Game pie (not h/m !)

    Pickles, chutneys etc.

    Cheese /crackers

Aldi posh chocolate triple Yule log

It will be too much food for 10/11 but lots of leftovers for the next day so I can be lazy :D

Work Xmas do today and I should be meeting everyone in the pub when they finish early today but ds2 is going to a party at a friend's house tonight, Its fairly near where we will be so we could get him in the cab on the way home, however I'm already in panicky mum mode- he's at a party, he may drink a lot. Not sure whether to drink or drive now, dh thinks I'm being silly and he will be fine.

    All sounds good.

As for your son, I dread mine being that age. A part of me says we've all been that age, got absolutely slaughtered, had a great time, paid for it the day after but lived to tell the tale. The other part says don't let him go. :rotfl:
