I shoi!d confess I've never watched HP!I've seen snippets but not watched a whole film! I've bought some of the books for dd for her birthday so plan to read them together first.

Your dd is very thoughtful, what appear as small gestures are usually the best.

Good luck with your scan today newgirly x

Thanks cath, you are in for a treat reading HP the books are great :) plus there is a spinoff new movie out in November "fantastic beasts and where to find them" with Eddie Redmayne which looks good. :D

We had a good evening at mum and dads, Mum is trying to get dad to give us his old car as they are up to 4 cars now (he's just bought a new Maserati - you can see why I was always a spender :rotfl:) it's a BMW X3 3.0 diesel, 2009 Not sure what to do really.
I said I would feel uncomfortable 1) not paying for it , 2). It costing more to run 3). If I wanted a change I couldn't just sell it. Dad said he could just loan it to us and if we want to get rid we just hand it back, we could offset the extra tax and ins easily by selling our 2007 merc. I don't know, dh loves the idea but it all seems a bit extreme so dad can still use it to go the the tip :D

Feeling flat at the moment, worried about the health niggles, the kids new college /uni, the business, fed up with the house being so neglected, wondering if I am being silly being so rigid to clear the mortgage in two years when we could take a bit longer and live more normally. I am sure there are plenty of other things I can think of to worry about too if I try :rotfl:

Good luck with the scan today xx

Can't advise anything re the car situation - how much more would it cost in tax and insurance? What would fuel consumption be like on it compared to your Merc?

What a lovely gesture from DD :) x

All of the kids will be fine in college and uni - we worry about them, of course but they will be ok (I have to keep telling myself this!! :D)

Two years isn't *that* long to get to your goal - have a countdown, plan things for the end of it - spice it up somehow. And your standard of living really isn't too bad as is, honestly! There are mini breaks, family days out, new clothes and house things (even if from Primarni etc) and cinema trips and you have vehicles - I'm not sure what living 'more normally' would be?! :)
Everyone gets flat once in a while and grass looks greener elsewhere - but the mtge is such a biggie (mentally - yours is a nice amount now) to get rid of - honestly, clearing it will be such a brilliant thing to achieve for all of your family. Get stretching those budgets! :D xx

This is going to seem a daft question I'm sure but....if you are having to make staff redundant and one staff member has already handed in his notice isn't that a good thing as you will save paying redundancy money ? During any worker's notice period, unless with a company where they don't trust you and never allow staff to work their notice period, it's normal to have to train others or write out desk instructions for future employees to follow ? I'm sure it's to do with the specialised jobs in your business and I bet he does something terribly technical but maybe that could act as a reminder to move staff round so you never have just one member of staff that can do one thing, especially true in your specialised business ?

Anyhoo, only respond if you want to, it just it struck me as strange you want to get rid of people, but then next sentence was about trying to persuade someone to stay but you must have good reason.

As greent said, from reading snippets your life sounds pretty great but we all sympathise with the constant fighting for every penny - my advice, fwiw, try to keep doing it for as many months as you can and i suspect you will not regret it in two years!!!

Hi daisy thanks for popping by, it's a job that anyone can train to do but it takes a long time to be good enough for our high end customers (like the queen;)) - it's very precise and artistic kind of, and dh is the only other person who can do it. The other staff have more broad jobs over different sections. Also the redundancy due would be pretty low.

You and greent are right about having it pretty good, it's just par for the course I think to sometimes feel a bit sorry for myself :rotfl: so in the spirit of feeling more grateful, here's a list of good things:

Worry about my health has resulted in more weight loss- a silver lining - almost half way to 3 st target :D

Red dwarf is back with a new series :T

The house is clean and tidy

It not hot anymore, soon I can wear onesies from 6pm again

My hair looks good after its first posh cut in years :rotfl:

I am getting used to not drinking at all

24 months left to mf if we don't go bust or spend too much money!
