Bad day yesterday, dh held his first meeting to inform staff of looming redundancies and before that my little brother handed his notice in  It will be very difficult if dh can't persuade him to stay due to the type of work he does.

Hopefully he will stay, he has no other job lined up but obviously has a big financial cushion as he also was given a lump sum by my parents.

Money vanishing at a rate of knots this month, dh was going to put some in the pot for the cruise spending money but hasn't, plus it's just been lots of odds and ends for college, cash left for takeaways while we were away, petrol to get there not budgetted for and various other things I neglected to plan for :o

So it's the 15th exactly half way rough the month and from the £630 budget I have I believe £111 left. Not enough petrol probably to see me through and a strong urge to go on a shopping spree to cheer myself up.

    Plans for today:

See lovely best friend and her youngest for coffee at the shops and a wander (could be temptation I should be resisting!)

Then back to hers to meet another friend for a catch up who has just got back from Thailand, lots of gossip and coffee which is a perfect day :D

Housework going slightly better lately, it's much tidier than it has been , but ironing pile is dangerously high, even the cat is avoiding the area incase it topples over and crushes her :rotfl: it's way to hot for any ironing is week except emergency stuff!

Thanks cath, I will do just that :D I need to check the online banking first and see what the damage is - may have spent a bit yesterday :o

Glad the weather has turned now, I am fed up being too hot although it has helped getting the washing dry quickly. Bought a brushed cotton fitted sheet yesterday for primarni, thought I would start getting ready for cold weather nice and early this year :)

    Overspending woes :rotfl:

Overspent on the cc but it includes stuff the kids have ordered and given me the cash for, end result I have £93.50 cash to last until the 1st October, and nothing on the cc. Also have to buy ds2 Fifa 17 - it's his yearly bribe for having the box room when his younger (by 20 mins) brother has a huge room! A plan needed to pay for that.

So £93.50 for 15 days = £6.23 per day for food and probably a bit of petrol

Back to basics, breadmaker on and I shall be batch cooking this afternoon, along with sorting the airing cupboard out and washing blankets for when it gets colder, I don't want that heating on unless there is snow :snow_laug

  • Good for you Newgirly - good luck with the challenge!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

    Cheers sss :)

Finally have an appointment for my scan as the hospital rang today, it's this Sunday. I am such a coward I am really not looking forward to it :o still it's a cancellation so earlier than the three plus more weeks they said to would be Monday.

Dd has come home tonight with a bunch of flowers and a lush penguin bath bomb for me :D no reason but she wanted to treat me she said, what a sweetie. I have persuaded dh to give her the day off tomorrow and take the boys to work to help out instead as Harry Potter the chamber of secrets is on at 11 am at the cinema :j missed the first one last week as we were away which was annoying as its the only one I never saw at the cinema , but looking forward to tomorrow as its my favourite one.

Did the vast ironing pile today and roasted a half leg of lamb for dinner , made the mistake of letting dh serve his and dds up as they got in later , he ate the lot! £8 of lamb in one dinner, not so frugal.

The chamber of secrets was brilliant at the cinema, I can't believe it is 14 years since I watched it when it was released. It reminds me so much of when the kids were little , they had Harry Potter figures, bedclothes the lot - so nostalgic :) I NEED to see the next six films over the next six weeks, good job I can go unlimited now :D

Breadmaker has decided it doesn't like making bread from scratch anymore, just giant white bullets :( second load in the bin that I made using my origional measured and weighed receipe , now trying a packet mix to see if that works.
