    Hi Newgirly

sorry to hear about the setback, i feel disappointed on your behalf :( as others have said - what the kids arn`t used to they won`t miss. I used to share a room with Dsis when i was younger and then later she moved into the box room. There was just enough room for a single bed and a small chest of drawers in there so it was a struggle to get the door open.

We eventually swapped and i moved into the box room - it was cosy though :D

Its nice to see you so positive once again, the plus side is that you won`t have increased heating bills for the extra room :D

Onwards and upwards - or rather onwards and downwards as your mortgage balance falls.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

From what you have all said, there are lots of kids sharing and growing up in cupboard size bedrooms, I suppose in one way it will stop them getting too comfy at home and encourage them to move out at some point, my little bro is 28 and at DM&D's still, there seems to be a lot of that nowadays.
I love them to bits but we were hoping to have them young and be still young enough when they have moved out to travel and have some fun!
What a terrible mum planning when they are moving out and the youngest are only 10 :rotfl: Can you tell its half term week!

On another note one of the cats has got her feet covered in black soot or something and gone onto DS1's bed in the night and covered all the bedding and his pj top (they have cuddles in bed, don't ask) and now I have to wash the lot again and scrub their floor, washing the bedding was one of the only jobs I had managed to do this week.

I now need to work out how much of march's budget I have gone into, new school shoes yesterday x2, food for kids coming over and to take to my friends today, another 3 months of xbox live which decided to run out during half term (£13), a bottle of wine to get over yesterdays dissapointment :pand a cake mould.

Good to see you have a plan, gives you something to work towards.
  • I started spending March's grocery money too. Oh well. To say this is a short month it has been pretty long hasn't it.

I'm glad you feel a bit better about it all today.
  • Oh Newgirly you always coming bouncing back don't you!

As you can read, a lot of us have our children in small bedrooms - my DS is coming up for 16 and is a strapping 6ft 1...his room is tiny, but as I point out it is not the size, it is how you use it!!! :D Storage underneath his bed, drawers and a wardrobe. To be fair a teenager is probably easier..no real 'toys' just TV, xbox, PS3, etc...but amazing how easily they still manage to trash it :o

To be fair I think we would all want to get something bigger/better but just think what fab positions we are all in. We have the option to OP/save, etc whereas some literally are on the breadline and can barely keep head above water. I think you hit the nail on the head by listing your new plans...many positive things to aim for...some long term and ongoing, and some to enjoy NOW...a perfect combination :T

You are so right Mummalove, you only have to go on the debt free/oldstyle boards and you realise how lucky you are. To be honest though without this site,by now we could also have been in the same position as some of those on the dfw forum, its been a life saver.
As for the kids, there is always something to feel guilty about, I always feel like I could do better, when I worked when DD was little I felt guilty and now i am (mostly) a SAHM I feel like I'm setting a bad example by not working every day.

I have offered to go and work for DH today , as one of his staff is ill and won't be returning, but I'm not sure how keen he is! Only problem is I can't work holidays as I don't want DD to be in charge on her own all day. he did say there may be work I can do from home on a temp. basis as he wants to get someone in full time to take on the role, and there is no way I can do those hours and commute to london, as there is no-one to help with the kids at all and DH goes to work at 4.30am and gets home about 7pm. But maybe it will possible to get some temp work from home which would be great as I can carry on if they are off school , fingers crossed. There are no jobs around anywhere at the moment here, once they are all at senior school I should be working in a proper job.

I keep thinking once mine are about 12/13 I will be able to have more choice of jobs or do more hours. Hope the temp thing works out for you for now

  • I have been ticked off for this view before, but I believe when one becomes a mother (I've never been a father and so can't speak for them) one inherits a kind of eternal guilt. Whatever we do, we still always feel bad in a tiny way because we could always do more or better.

Then I think that maybe really bad mothers, and I don't think there are many of those, don't ever question or self-criticise, and that that's when the trouble starts?

Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

I've had some good news :j DH has offered me one day a weeks work from home, He has an elderly member of staff very ill who has said he won't be coming back, and he was only part time. It stuff he can bring home that with some small equipment I can work on here and he can take back the next day.

I am so pleased as I can earn without having to drive into london-plus the petrol costs and even better, I can work through the school holidays and sick days! I will get £50 per week, I don't know about the tax etc.yet I'll have to find out, but it can't be much.
Dh has said its only going to be for a year or so, as he will replace me and another worker when she retires with a full timer, but I've get a year to persuade him to make it permanent ;).

I would not want to go full time there as its very early starts (dh goes in at 5am!) and late finishes, i don't want the kids on their own, plus I would never get anything done at home.

Anyway, I need to go through the bank accts, and do all my round the houses money transfers via the halifax etc. Plus update how much i spent in MRT yesterday out of march's budget.
