It's great finding others who do it - I was out with some of the mums from school earlier in the Summer and we got on to mortgages - and several said they were OPing - so I confessed that we had only 1 month to go (as it was then)
- I am older than most of them, as these are mums with children the same age as my small 2, so did point this fact out to them when a couple were amazed and said I was lucky (hmph!!)

Yes I guess we must be lucky! Crazy that people don't bat an eyelid if you say you have thousands on credit cards or loans but when they find out you op you are odd.
I went to mr t today to pick up a now tv box (on offer for £10 incl 2x months sky movies) sold out unfortunately, this will be the first year I don't get sky movies from now until xmas as they won't offer the usual £8 pm deal. Still I ended up spending £78 on food, I have filled the freezers with veg, roast potatoes, and a bit of meat and fish so it should last and make dinners nice and quick. Batch cooking a beef casserole from frozen beef on offer and a bag of frozen casserole mix along with a couple of approved food beef and wine mixes, totally lazy cooking, love it!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Visited 2x massive Tesco extras and managed to get the last now tv with movies box for £10, we have movies for xmas now hooray! Might hold off for a few days before using so it lasts until new years eve as we are likely to be at home while the kids are out and about needing lifts.
Took the boys to the factory to meet mil so she could cut their hair, she is a funny woman, we walk in and she says "hello boys why don't you want to ever visit me anymore and why won't you come to my house?" I had tried to go there today but she said no she was too busy!! almost as good as the time she said out of the blue to me, your backside is very fat - I was a size 10 at the time! mil one liners always a source of entertainment....MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
She is lucky she isn't my mil. Those remarks would have given her a headache.0

Oh trust me I am fine answering her back! Although less so when I have a slight hangover :rotfl: I asked them to leave once after some unpleasant comments many years ago. They have mellowed but we do have a culture clash as mil is spanish and quite old fashioned too, once dh came home from work early and I told him there was stuff in the fridge to make himself a sarnie. Even though I was in the garden watching thr kids in the paddling pool she literally screamed what a terrible wife I was not doing it for him  Just one of many little gems over the years:DMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

I'm glad we did Halloween, it's been a really good evening. I was quite concerned about the alcohol free party but everyone was OK with it (half the adults were driving anyway). Finally have an hour to myself after tucking Mrs K into bed. Not looking forward to the clean up tomorrow, though.
On another note, I thought my In-Laws were bad. :eek:2018 totals:

Glad your party went well Alex
our dinner did too, although definatly not alcohol free , I only had a couple though. Ds2 went to a friends house and turned up as we sat down to dinner and his friend had do done a brilliant realistic cut throat wound on him with wax , not sure he will get it off ok!
Visiting gran this morning, she is not eating again and quite upset yesterday saying she has had enough now :. Mum and aunt have just put her bungalow up for sale,so thats another mammouth job to do clearing all her things, it has to be done though as shd has to pay for the home as apparently she doesnt get help from the goverment as she does not have dementia. (She ususally doesnt know who is who in the family!) the last test she failed was only 2 weeks ago.
Two viewings booked already, they go for silly money where we live so it should sell well, although they took out 2x equity release schemes on it a out 30years ago, so not sure how much money she will actually get to pay the home.
Anyway, off to go and tidy up from last night , hope they all got home aright as there were no cabs at all !MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I have found someone in real life who does this :. I said we are being careful.and have six and a half years left which the hubby seemed very surprised at, ( think he was surprised due to some of our past silly purchases -hot tubs etc.!) we must look spendier than we are.
I've found loads in real life who overpay, I think the low interest rates has encouraged people.
Love that you come across as spendier than you actually are, just shows how great bargain hunting is:DHOME

Such a shame about your Gran's home, I'm going to visit my Gran today, she's got dementia. My mum and her sister are having to make up the shortfall to pay her care home fees and it is crippling at £800 a week:eek::eek:
My Gran has a really decent teacher's pension, more than my salary as a teacher, slightly ironic. They have also let out her bungalow but still having to top up around £200 a week. It's frightening really. Mum reckons they can afford another 18 months then her house would have to be sold.HOME

Hi sarahevie, sorry your gran has dementia its such a horrid disease.
Gran was much worse and didn't want my aunt (her daughter) there I think us visiting her is actually making her more distressed as she is constantly crying and trying to tell us things which don't make sense. Saddest thing was grans best friend of 80 years was there with her chatting with her about when they were little girls.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
