We plan to have interesting meals too Newgirly and have done some baking to increase supplies! Curry was on our meal plan but we have no curry powder or cream so now it's off and the meals may be 'interesting' this week!

I'm also trying think of some veggie meals as we are off to CP soon and can't take meat with us (worried it will go off) and don't want to imagine how expensive meat will be in their shops? Any meal ideas?

Evening cath, could you take quorn instead and do a chilli/lasagne? Or take meat frozen and cook for the first night with it.

I would keep it simple and do jacket spuds, pasta and pesto or sauce in a jar with a bit of peppers/onions. Bake in the oven rolls, good for all meals and can put a shake of herbs/garlic and butter for garlic bread.

Can you take frozen pot of something like a casserole or curry to defrost on the way and have the second night, should keep ok still?

Spanish omlette or fishfinger sarnies for lunch?

Sorry not exactly fancy ideas :rotfl:

My personal prioroties are wine and chocolate on holiday :o

I take meat things to CP - I usually cook and freeze something like a large chilli and that acts as the freezer packs in the cool box (we do have a plug in one as well, but that's bulkier, so don't use it for CP) - easy first night food. I sometimes freeze and take things like sausages and bacon (for full Englishes! :D) too - but have been known to buy that there. If you freeze something like chicken breasts/ mince etc on the day you buy it at home and take it it should be fine for a couple of days in the fridge once there.

The shop used to be comparable to a regular supermarket when we first started going (back in 1999!!) but that's sadly no longer the case :(

We still love going there, though. Several uni Open Day visits and an Army Cadet weekend have meant we haven't gone this half term :(

  • Like Greent said, this is what we do for CP.

I usually make a big slow cooker chilli then switch it on for a warm through when we get in the lodge for tea that night, and later in the week we have jacket spuds with chilli and cheese.

I take meat, just wrap it well and pack some freezer blocks in there.

We have typically gotten in our lodge early too so you can get stuff in the fridge asap.

As I recall, the supermarket isn't "that" bad price wise

    Enjoy, we love CP

I have eaten sooo much today, thr curse of baking :o

As its half term I am leaving the lazy wotsits in bed and going into work early , so missing the rush hour. Due to a nasty nightmare about my zafira catching fire last night and getting stuck inside, (ours is an affected model but will be booked in if vauxhall ever answer the phone!) I am getting a lift with dh and walking and getting a tube home for the first time ever. Its a good excuse to try a different commute and there is no risk of catching alight - a win/win :D

Its either 4x buses a day £4.40 cap plus £3.20 tube per day or the tube plus a 5 mile total walk :eek. Its under 8 miles door to door one way, so only around £3.36 in petrol return. I won't be popular if I do change from the car though as I take ny brother 3x days a week and often drop the apprentice home tooftI'm just sick of sitting in traffic, its not going to do me harm exercising sometimes!

Thanks for the CP tips. My original plan was for frozen meat but was worried about it defrosting on the way. We will leave about 10am and get there 1ish and I am assuming not checking in until 3pm. Worth a chance though as I wanted to make slow cooker meals once there. Really looking forward to a break and it's our first time there!

Good luck with your commute Newgirly and hope you can get the car checked over soon.

I took all our meat frozen and put it in the fridge on arrival , should be fine for a few days. When are you going cath?

Got a lift with dh this morning, then a lift back to the station this afternoon, tube, then a half hour very fast walking home. I'm not doing that everyday :rotfl. It seems silly as its dearer and takes longer! Obviously its not as healthy though, I am just so fed up of sitting in traffic in the mornings for an hour and a half.

All the crisps are gone and the fairy cakes and the hobnobs. All that effort and they have hoovered the lot up.
