Granny has had a fall and broken her hip on weds night :( looks like she she be operated on this morning, but will be a dangerous op for someone so frail. I will go and visit later if its ok to.

Dh at work again for his second saturday opening, its worth it at the moment as its our very busy period for part of the business with students starting back the new term.

Its been a stressful month and I have failed to keep an online spending tracker diary, its also been an expensive month what with all the school uniform that was not budgetted for plus my parents, brother and dhs birthdays all in spetember. I didn't want to use up the birthday savings i have only just started, so used the everything else one.

Luckily dhs mil has given us some money to help with the kids uniforms this year ( well she wanted to give it just to dd to help with travel, but dh suggested it should be for all 3 kids) anyway, its £200 and has come at a most welcome time, we have never been offered help like that over the years so they must think we are hard up :rotfl: still £200 pays for all the school stuff with some left over to give dd to top her oyster up.

I now have to wait until 10th sept to start this months budget on the cc, no reason touch wood why i can't go for a "super frugal" september. The only major thing we are doing is goodwood revival next weekend, tickets and hotel for two nights, breakfast and dinner already paid for, petrol money sorted :)

Perhaps its a good time to set a a challenge:

    Stick to diet
    Keep off heating
Food budget reduce by £100 to £300
    Save the £100
Start winterising the family :) dressing gowns and bed throws ready!
Ditch the many greek salads for hot healthy meals
Switch to mainly green tea, ive just bought salted caramel and cherry bakewell.
Be more organised on a daily basis so i get more free time when off work, better evening routines etc.
Drink less wine, can't diet and give up so have cut down.

I love your new verb, winterise. Can I nick it and start using it? And did I understand correctly, you have a salted caramel and a cherry bakewell green tea?

Hi wbc, hospital don't say much and will know more when they start to operate.

The tea is twinings , cherry bakewell smells very like the cake , but tastes just a tiny but like it, but mainly like green tea. Not tried the salted caramel yet.

Thanks for the good wishes everybody :)

  • Hope granny is okay. My nan also had this op and it is really tricky for those that are frail. My nan was 90 when she had it and had been really active up to this point. My nan was 91 when she passed away but found it really very difficult to deal with post op rehab. Basically asked to go home as she was so independent still and fell again. You couldn't stop her though she was 90 with the mind of a 20 year old. My only advise is to try to keep her in the hospital as long as possible for a complete rehab.

You are doing so well in the money savings, good on the MIL helping out with the school uniforms. I know my parents help out my sisters (both single parents) but we don't get anything for miniOCC. Saying that only spent £8 this summer!

Sorry to hear about your nan, my gran has dementia too , so should'nt be at home alone anyway.

£8 is a fantastic school spend, ive just spent £70 on blazers and recycled all the sew on badges and stripes from their old ones £2 per house colour stripe (ie.a bit of ribbon and i need 4) plus badges, took a whole afternoon though :o

  • Oh your poor gran, my nan went from 100% okay aged 90 to hips, strokes, dementia in such a short period. I still miss her, I used to meet her every Friday for lunch.

Good one saving on the uniforms, I dread to think about how much big kids uniform and other expenditure is. MiniOCC is only 6 but as he is tall has gone into 8-9 clothes and the prides really increase. He is now a size 2 shoes so you don't get much for under £40. One of my colleagues is getting excited though as she is a size 3 and can't wait to for this grown out converse!
