Dh is going even more crazy than usual trying to get new contracts, we do have a few big ones on the way ( goverment work, museums etc. Who only spend at certain times ofthe year) we are de eloping new products , emailing and ringing past and new customers daily etc. Something always comes along when we need it, or it has inthe past.i work in a factory of positive people including dh who think it will all be ok, we've been trading 125 yrs!
Job wise, it will take a year to train someone to replace me, so thats why im thinking of supplementing income by selling online and trying to do both.
Thanks for the good wishesMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

that is a great idea. I'm starting training as a counsellor in November so I'm less dependant on the business although this is a longer term plan. Also I really believe in talking therapy so it's win win.
Now all you need is a good idea.......
Other idea is could your factory diversify into totally different products as a sideline. I know someone who manufacturers shop fittings for big high street chains but will make rmu's or even the odd kitchen when the factory floor is quiet.0 -
newgirly: What are you thinking of selling?
ourcornercottage: Diversifying the factory is a great idea and certainly something for newgirly to think about.
Good luck with the counselling training, as somebody whose been through the experience (not your side of the table, though) I really admire people who train to be counsellors. I certainly wouldn't want to talk to me, though.2018 totals:

I was toying with fifties style (new) dresses, i wear them when i dress up a bit and get a constant stream of women randomly talking to me about them, they are not really often available in shops
there is a wholesaler in london that supplies, but like everything - plently of competition!

Have you talked to My Best Jumper? She knows quite a lot about ebay shops I believe in a similar but not competing area.0

Who what and where is my best jumper shs?
A level results today, dd is doing one and a level3 btec. The a level was a real fight to get her able to do it, i had to basicaly chase the guy in charge of the descision for weeks and then refuse to leave college until.he saw me, she still has another year to go on both courses, but after working like crazy for gcses she didnt get the grades she wanted bless her and was devastated at the time.
She has just been offered a years official internship at one of the theatres she is volunteering at , and has been told they do apprenticeships which they would.like her to consider, she has decided to try and get into southbank uni, but options are goodMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
If selection criteria are picking the wrong people then the criteria are wrong might need spome creative pooling as well.
Not that it make any difference if you don't have the cash, max statutory payout is £14250. they would need to be 62 or over.
If the workers contracts are a problem to manage workflow going forward then time to look at changing them.0 -
The criteria are set by the goverment empoyment law not us, thats what we had to follow. Staff have to agree contract changes, there would not be much point if we could change their contracts to suit ourselves. Our best hope is to ask nicely for them to reduce hours , we had to do this when we implimented at pay cut a few months ago, if they chose to refuse we could not do it. Luckily everyone did agree., although some were understandably unhappy.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

The criteria are not set by the goverment they are set by business needs. there are some guidelines by the likes of ACAS on the sort of things you can include but carefull weighting can get you the result you need.
If you have underperforming employees then that makes selection a lot easier just weigh that criteria much higher.
Ultimately if the business needs are met an ET can't do much as they have no power to tell you how to run your business.
Pooling and bumping perfecty legal so you can move people around to achieve goals. get the pools right and you may be left with much simpler selection process.
Staff can be forced to take on new contracts if the business need are good enough.
If you can't afford redundancy you may need to look at other ways to manage the workforce. if performance is an issue deal with it.
Why are you struggling to find a business reason to get rid of the people you want to leave?0 -
