I think you need to speak to an Estate Agent re. doing the loft/chopping bedroom in half etc.

Can you get a free current valuation & ask their advice on doing work??

Hi, thanks Pinkpoppy, that s probably a good idea, I am a bit suspicious of estate agents in general though, and as I'm such a sad individual I probably know more about the houses that have sold in the last 2 years in the surrounding streets than they do :o

At the end of the day it boils down to do we want to borrow 25-30k more than we owe now.
I just did one of nationwide's soft search loan quotes and I think it looks like we would get a loan form them, bizarrely the rate swings up and down depending on the year taken over ie. 6 yrs 8.4%, 5 years 7.3% and 7 years 6.3 %.

Need to sleep on it rather than rush into anything, also will need to check that its ok with dh's whole buy out at work thing we are trying to sort out, which is not really anything to do with us but the bank like to know all the ins and outs of some of the staff.

Meal planning and diet have gone out the window since last week, one I change a couple of days meals it seems to all get too complicated t keep track of. I might focus efforts a bit more on batch cooking and just planning for 7 day at a time.

  • Tought I would creep out of lurkdom - hello :D

If you really want to do the loft, consider getting a zopa loan. Then you can overpay if you want as much as you want. I'm not sure that bank loans are quite as flexible. A couple of my borrowers have only had the money for a matter of months before paying back. The space constantly is an issue for you. I think it is more important to be happy in a house you currently own than constantly be finding ways of torturing yourself with things you are not going to be able to have. You can't get the mortgage until the profit is there for 3 years - realistically that isn't going to happen while the kids are young enough - so if you need more space, you need more space.

    Clear as mud eh?

I think you can overpay quickly when you get in the mindset, but a lot of energy and brain powe is being used thinking about it.

Lol, I know what you mean about knowing more than the Estate Agent, I'm the same!! ;)

I threw a strop last night & ended up eating a whole box of maltesers so my diet is up the spout too!! :o So fed up making different meals for everyone (4 last night) I just don't think my family appreciate my efforts & I definitely felt taken for granted last night :(

Fresh start today though ~ I've been shopping & have a meal plan sorted. I am NOT going to be making separate meals for everyone ~ if they don't eat what I've made they can go hungry!!

michelle, it was your diary that inspired me to start making OPs :D Obviously it's gone now, but I remember you had so many good ideas to make extra money & you were always so willing to help others (like you are doing for newgirly today).

Hope you & your family are doing well.

  • I'm still doing exactly the same type of stuff, though less seems to go to the mortgage now the boys are bigger and need more, but we are all ok - plodding along as normal. :D

Thanks so much for popping in Michelle, its lovely to hear from you :D

I've had no internet all day which has been a right pain whilst trying to do research, I did actually look at zopa last night and another similar thing that I forget the name of now. We have ended up trying for a loan with the nationwide as the rate is good and we can make op's on it (its a bit complicated - you have to ring them each time first, but it is possible) it seems to have been approved we just need to send in a payslip and the paperwork.

Its a miracle that after 2 years of umming and arghing a desicion has finally been made :T

Pink Poppy, good luck with the meal planning I hope it goes a bit better than mine did, we all eat different meals too, I blame myself as I sohuld let them go without :p

Michelle, I really hope you start another diary one day incognito - you have been very missed hun! Glad the family are ok, take care :D

  • I'm not really likely to start a diary again, but I can imagine me popping up now and again. ;)

I'm so pleased you have reached a decision. It will save you so much time not thinking about it. :D
