FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS: Volcano ash from Iceland hits UK flight plans

I have just had a phonecall from Expedia (called yesterday to ask about a refund and said would call back today once Disney reservations was open).
They said we can have a full refund for Disneyland although would have to cancel today. Only problem is we are meant to go on wednesday, unlikely, but the flight hasnt been cancelled yet.
Bit stuck on what to do as if we accept the refund and cancel Disney and the flights go then we wont get a refund for that and vice versa.
Although if we did go we could get stuck over there!
Have to say they have been excellent over the phone to us and have offer to call back every time we have spoke to them as there is around 1.30 hour call waiting time.
As gutted as I am we wont be going probably at least we are getting our money back and arent stuck in a foreign country.0 -
Im suppose to be flying out Friday , i need to sort my travel insurance out today incase the worse should happen , but what i want to know if i take it out and my flight is cancelled would i get a refund for the travel insurance i paid.
You will not be able to obtain any insurance to cover the ash cloud as it is a known event, never mind a refund of premiums if your flight is cancelled.0 -

Did you book the entire trip through Expedia?
I'm getting so frustrated not hearing back from them, and the phone lines being so busy.
They need to update their website with a lot of relevant information.0 -

It would be double disaster if you fell sick and couldn't get home.
Price annual travel insurance, that way you would be covered for a holiday later this year if you don't get anywhere this month.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi all, hope those stranded will finally be getting home, heres where I satns, was supposed to fly out to Portugal on Friday, not happened, cancelled which is all ok as I have changed flight to later in May and that was harmless through Ryanair!.
My hotel was booked through Low Cost Holidays all inclusive for 7 nights (£350), they have confirmed that they will not amend or cancel any booking:( this is in the t&c's but in this situation you would think they could be slightly more considerate! I have spoken with hotel direct and also have in writing confirmation from the hotel that they have not been paid by Low Cost Holidays, and also confirmed they only pay once a customer has arrived! Now surely these companies cannot profit from our mis fortune? Hotel have advised they would change but obviously cant do this as they have not and will not be paid.
Any ideas on this or if there is anything I can do? I understand losing the room that was booked butit is our AI option I would love to be transferred.:money: giving me & my darling boys a better cheaper life

Hi
Any advice on behalf of family members would be great.
My mother & father in law and their 2 friends were due to fly back on friday from New York at the end of a 2 week Carribean cruise.
The holiday was booked as a package holiday with Going places at a local Asda store.
The airline is Continental who said that it was too expensive for them to stay in New York, so flew them to San Juan. When they arrived they had to pay their own accommodation costs in the hotel they were take to by the airline (luckily it's a nice hotel).
They are now expecting to return home to the UK next Sunday.
Going places are now saying that their insurance company should pay the accommodation etc costs, but from what I have read on here the resposibilty is with the airline, does this change if it's a US airline?0 -
You are entitled to a refund of your expenses from BA. Under the present circumstances BA and other airlines will end up sticking rigidly to the EU regs for what they will reimburse. That means I don't expect them to necessarily refund the complete cost of your car hire (but depends how far you are from shops etc and whether there are any alternatives such as public transport to get around) If there are reasonable alternatives to getting around then use these. If not then claim for the hire car but BA may not reimburse this.
It is eminently sensible to be reasonable about living costs and you seem to be doing just this.
Thanks Cityboy. I may try for the car hire as there is little in the way of public transport where we are. We are very lucky really cos we can stay in the apartment and have funds, with a credit card to fall back on.
So we are going to enjoy the extra time we have here, but do things that cost little (no jetskiing for DS2!) I've emailed work for DH and myself, and all ok there. DS2 worried about school cos revision time for GCSEs is coming up, but he can do online revision, have stuff scanned by DS1 at home and sent out by email, so all is not lost. Just got to wait now and hope our rebooked flight on 27th isn't cancelled.
Thanks again for all the advice and info you and P eats P have put on this site. it is so nice to be kept up to date and to know what our rights are. :T :beer:0
