FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS: Volcano ash from Iceland hits UK flight plans

hope someone can help me.
we booked a package holiday last year to turkey for 5th july and we just made the final payment last week just before the ash problem, did not take out travel insurance at the time as i wanted to look around rather than take travel agents in house insurance. if this volcanic ash problem goes on , which they have indicated is a possibility, would me taking travel insurance out now cover me for anything, and will first choice automatically offer me an alternative holiday to the same standard with free child places ?
IMHO you are not be covered by insurance unless you buy it prior to making your booking. If First Choice planes can't take off, they should offer you an alternative or full refund.0 -
Still in Malta. Air Malta refuse to acknowledge the regulation 261/2004 and claim they are even distributing their own "modified" versions of the 261/2004 regulation with a new added paragraph to say they arn't liable!!! :O0

Wonder if any one can help. I have family stuck in Bangkok they were on a princess cruise then paid princess to arrange an extension for them. The whole holiday was booked through princess They were meant to land today obviously this is goi ng to happen. They are on a quantus flight so the Eu rules wont apply.
Princess are saying they do not have to pay for their extra accomodation and have left them without any information or contact numbers. Does any one know as the whole holiday is through princess who is part of carnival who are atol and abta registered so are a travel agents and tour operator in their own rights. that they have a duty of care towards them and pay for the additional hotel stay?
My family have tried to email them but had no response. So to be honest princess are just washing their hands of them...0 -

I'm unclear on scope of the EU regulations, (a) says all flights leaving the EU, so not much use for EU citizens trying to get home from non EU countries; (b) says only airlines which an operating licence granted by EU, but do all airlines that land in the EU have to have one of these? It seems not as 2407/92 say applies to carriers whose main place of business is in EU and is own by people in EU.
So that rules out (b) too and only leaves (a), IF, by departing UK this applies to a return ticket. But it doesn't specifically state that so the airlines would argue it doesn't moral is use an EU airline it would seem.0 -
I know I'll get a refund on hotel and flight.
But I was due to travel to gatwick today via national express and stay in a travellodge.
can these costs (about £50) be reclaimed on my aviva travel insurance?0 -
Has anyone managed to get throught to Expedia? What number did you use if you did? I have been trying on 020 7019 2000 but then i get a bit confused on which option to use on the menu - ive booked flights and hotels through expedia and they are on the same itinary - does that count as a package?
I was on hold for an hour and half last night and been on hold for 20minutes so far today! I know they are going to be having a huge number of calls but i dont want to be on hold to the wrong department!0 -
I noticed quite a few people on here complaining about not getting away on holiday and it ruining their travel plans.
All I can say is that think about it... the airlines won't sent someone off on holiday, away from their own country when there is 100's or possibly 1000's of stranded people at that airport who need your plane seat to get back home.
I am currently stranded on holiday in California, although booked on the next available flight to Heathrow NEXT SATURDAY (if it goes ahead!), but our family are lucky because we have come back to my sister's house in San Diego.
Please think before you complain about not going on holiday... there are many people who only have airport floors as a bed for the unforseeable future.I want to go home
No. It goes both ways. I have not had a holiday in a while and this is the ONLY time I could have had one before my baby is due (then god knows when I'll get time off). I'm not going to 'think' before I complain about not going on holiday. I worked bloody hard and deserved this holiday and i'm !!!!ed off I won't get to go on it.
Far better to be home and have to have an alternative holiday in England than be stranded overseas.
My son also had a holiday booked. 4 days in Barcelona, may not sound much, but as a poor student with a group of friends with different uni holidays, it was the only chance this group to get together. When they made the decision to cancel it was because (a) they didn't want to risk not being able to get back on time, (b) that they may incur extra costs that they couldn't afford and (c) that there would be other people who would need their booked flights home on wednesday more than they have.
Rather than mope around feeling sorry for themselves, they have organised a night out in London last night, a day trip somewhere today and cheap train tickets (and found free doss-down accommodation) in Manchester monday to wednesday. Not half as exciting as the Barcelona scene, but they've just got on with it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
