And don't forget, for his first visit home you will need locks on all the kitchen cupboards otherwise you will find that you have been stripped clean of all packets and tins when he goes back! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Everytime I went into Tesco or Wilkinsons I'd pick up a couple of things to add to his Uni 'bottom drawer' collection. Will he be in catered halls or have to cook his own? Another thing - I got a poly pocketed A4 folder and put all his useful documents in - passport, bank details and statements, phone contract stuff, Uni and SF correspondence, exam certificates. Then it was all in one place should he ever need to find it, he has to guard it with his life mind! Colour catcher sheets for the washing are a good idea, cos they can bung everything in together then and save money. Box of food basics - tomato sauce, marmite, tea bags, sugar, nutella, etcOver futile odds

Thank you all again:A , this advise is just so wonderful.....keep it all coming. I am trying not to let on to my DS, just how uptight i am about him leaving, and living in halls. Having all this info. is going to make such a difference for him.
Thanks again. Love BTX0 -

My mum couldn't wait to get rid of me! :eek:0 -
If he's self-catering then teach him to cook some basics, eg pasta, mince, baked potato, cheese sauce, tomato sauce, etc.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

That's just how I was too, so organising, shopping and collecting things so that he was as well equipped as possible really helped me. Happily, he loves it and hasn't starved or turned into a tramp or any of the terrible fates I moithered about and he's in East London, although his halls on the royal albert dock are the most cushy student digs I think I've ever seen (although a very dull campus in terms of nightlife/student groups) - my Art College had prefab huts that were put up temporarily during the war!! :rotfl: My next worry is where he's going to rent in September, 4 of them want to share but I reckon all they'll be able to afford is a flat above a kebab shop or something! Where's your son hoping to go?

My eldest goes off to uni this year too...assuming he drags himself off the Xbox/MSN and actualy does does some revision lol
I am actively not thinking about the details...if I wonder about what he's eating I would worry far too much. :rotfl:0 -

I do leave him be, now he's there and he's quite capable of looking after himself, I'm not the anxious mother phoning him every day - I wouldn't consider myself to be much of a parent if I hadn't helped him to go prepared, he wouldn't have been able to afford all he needed or thought of it. He's our first born and therefore the first to leave home, so it is as big a thing for us, his parents, as it is for him, we miss him and surely that's only natural. I can't relate to parents who can't wait to get rid of their children (maybe if he's still living at home when he's 42, i'll take that back!:rotfl:)
