Double complete bed set £9 at Debenhams [CLOSED]

  • I too ordered one of these bed sets and have recieved the same ridiculous letters as everyone else here. Something I'll add to the mix is the nectar points - I entered a code to recieve 1000 nectar points - on the follow up email (before the letters) it says "we are pleased to confirm that you have earned Nectar points on this shopping. These points will be added to card number ###".

The thing that really annoys me is how badly worded the cancellation letter is - no apologies, no alternatives, no humanity whatsoever. We're being treated as insignificant - despite this being their mistake and incompetence.

By the way - having just checked out saynoto0870.com, the landline for Debenhams cs is 0141 2489975. Why not ask to speak direct to Sue Clarke, after all, she apparently wrote my letter (and no doubt everyone elses?). I am going to do this in just a sec.

This is another example of incompetent "computer says no" office zombies, hiding behind big brands. Its about time their mistakes caught up with them.

if i had known then what i know now
  • Gave them a call - very snobby and patronising cs rep. I clearly stated the case and was told a bunch of waffley "our supplier was out of stock and therefore... etc" to which I replied I didn't want to know about the suppliers - as far as I'm concerned Debenhams have invoiced me for a product, promised to deliver it, and now have to live up to that. She kept trying to fall back on "every step of the way is subject to availability" to which I replied that the invoice is a legal contract that is not subject to availability - they should have known about availability before taking the money and sending the invoice. I also added that its an incredibly poor supply chain if they can't even communicate with them to forecast availability, or at least find out before taking the money.

I was eventually told that I should be offered an alternative. When I asked when and how this happens - she became patronising again, saying 'Debenhams will do it'. When I asked exactly who, she again said 'Debenhams'. I said 'funny - I thought Debenhams was a registered company rather than a person - how exactly can I interface with Debenhams to get the alternative?' She said through the website!! What a joke! As if there is a section for "people who have been knobbed about and would like to request the alternative to which they are rightly due". After leaving me with about 4 minutes of music (whilst she no doubt ate some more biscuits and asked stupid questions to her likeminded colleagues) she came back and said that the website wouldnt be able to sort me out with an alternative afterall. So who would? Another 5 minutes whilst she gets me a magic address to write to - whats the address that took so long to find? 1 Welbeck St! The main london HQ. When I asked why it took so long to find the main address for Debenhams, she replied "I had to find it".

In the end I said "so you've basically taken 15 minutes to get me an address".

    What an awful company.
  • Has anybody heard back from Rob Templeman or indeed anyone else from the incompetent chain known as Debenhams, will be interesting to compare the responses if any of us ever get one.

I posted a while ago now, and am still fuming about the whole thing. Have read through the posts and am glad to see that someone else thought the T&C's on their website were 'suspect' to say the least... I'm just back from hols and still not really with it at the mo, but I would say that the guys over on CAG are EXCELLENT and will give us all some tangible effective advice on what stance to take. Also, there are many other 'cases' on there that are similar, so at least we'll know if we've taken the right action.

They have a really neat system in place so that even if you're a brand new member, another more established member will make contact with you almost immediately. Great site that has also empowered me to take on Shabby Nat on my $$$$$$$$$$$ bank charges!

Will try my best to nip over there to see if it's already been raised, and if not, will ask myself, but if anyone wants to get in before me and report back that would also be great.

Aside: I'm nowt to do with the above site, but would say that along with MSE, it's probably the most useful site in the whole wide world. ;)

I got my money debited then credited the day after...I received 3 letters telling me they would be delivered before the 6th of september and then a letter telling me the money had been credited back as they were sold out..I rang them an hour ago and they told me they had cancelled my order as I was having it delivered to another address.(My mums house)..I was fumeing...I had to ring them 2 week ago to confirm billing and delivery address as they were both different...The woman from debenhams said they should of told you 2 week ago that they had cancelled your order as it was not being delivered to the billing address...ahhhhhhh..I am going to email them now...They could of told me 2 week ago to have it delivered to me...

I will not be using Debenhams in future , i phone up regarding another matter and when i brought up about my Duvet set she put the phone down on me

Where do Debenhams get there staff from

Think some of them need to learn some people skills.
  • People skills at Debenhams? They aren't even people themselves. They are bred specially in a shed by wild ox and boars,

Debenhams is very much a case of the employees being in the shadow of the brand - management clearly dont live up to the brand - so the staff go on behaving like fools and thinking that mistakes wont be noticed. Trouble is, they probably wont. Its the worse kind of unprofessionalism.
