    Hi
My husband was made redundant in 2001 and asked for his bank account to be frozen (he had an overdraft of £1000 and a loan of the same) to date we are still paying off £50 a month as the bank referred my husband to a debt agency. They keep changing the amount he owes and yesterday said it stood at £700. We applied to get charges back from the bank and asked for someone to look into where all the money had gone (obviousley £50 a month over 9 years is a lot of money). Im really angry that the bank have done this to my husband and he still gets harrassed. dont know who else to go to for help.

    Hi Winkle,

    Thank you for your email.

I would recommend that your husband has an appointment with the CCCS, so we can help him complete a detailed financial statement and look at his options. If he would like an appointment please call 0800 138 1111.

With regards the debt being passed to a debt collection agency, this is pretty standard. I have attached a link to the CCCS website so you can have a read through the collection process

    https://www.cccs.co.uk/InfoCentre/EnglandandWales/Creditoraction/Debtcollectionprocess.aspx

I would recommend that you keep an eye on this website for update with bank charges, as now the new government is in place there may be an opportunity to put in a claim.

    Hope this helps

Hi , I've been on dmp for just short of a year and was under the impression I had an arangement in place with lloyds tsb to reduce my overdraft by the agreed amount as part of my dmp, however I have now recieved an enforcement notice letter requesting full payment by the end of the month.I would like some advice of how to deal with this. many thanks .

    Hello,

Nothing to worry about, usually when they ask for the full balance they are just defaulting the debt so that they can pass it onto a collection agency. I have attached a link to the CCCS website so that you can read through the collection process.

    https://www.cccs.co.uk/InfoCentre/EnglandandWales/Creditoraction/Debtcollectionprocess.aspx

If the debt does get passed to a collection agency, just let the organisation that your DMP is with know, as they will need to change who they are paying.

    Hi there,

Wonder if you could provide your thoughts on a letter I received from MBNA today.

I wrote to them last week using the template letter from CCCS as I have just sent you my signed DMP form and statements. Today I received a letter from them that reads:

    "Dear xxxxx,

    Account xxxxxxxxxxx

Following a review today a restriction has been put on your account. We ask that you cut up your credit cards. As from today, no further transactions will be authorised.

If you have any concerns as to why we have taken this action please call one of our specialists .....

    Yours sincerely"

I haven't missed payments for them so far so should I presume this is in response to me notifying them of my DMP with CCCS? Just wondered if this is their normal way of responding to such a letter?

I also wondered at what point I would receive the welcome pack with payment slip in for my first payment? I returned the DMP form with my signature and all statements at the stat of last week and to date haven't heard anything back. I called CCCS today and the lady told me my DMP was being processed but couldn't tell me in which month it would begin. How long does it normally take to receive this?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,

This will just be there way of saying they have received the paperwork. All they are doing is putting a block on your account so that you can’t use them.

I would give it until Monday and if you still have not got it, give us a call back.

    Good luck with your DMP.

Hi Just a really quick question please, I'm filling out my form that cccs emailed me. Am I going to be allowed to keep my internet & phone, or are they seen as luxuries?
So far half my £93.45 something a week has gone on the 3 utilities, house ins & internet,
    Thank you
Sorry it's another ? on the form there's nothing to put down food, how much is generally allowed for a single person for food, toiletries & cleaning?

    Hi hermum,

    Thank you for your message.

Your budget needs to reflect your situation, so I would recommend that you put down the figures you are spending then your counsellor will discuss if these figures are below or over the guidelines.

    Regards

    Hello CCCS,

I am wondering if you can help me.. I have £35k worth of debt consisting of two personal loans and 3 credit cards. I have a shared ownership property and my current mortgage ends in November when I will be remortgaging. If I take out a DMP will this affect my credit file for a remortgage?? I am not missing payments on anything, but I am living in my overdraft each month. I have one loan that is at 14.5% which shocked me when I got my yearly statement....Can you help???

    Regards,

    Hello,

    Thank you for your message.

I think it would be better to have an appointment so that we can see you full situation and look into your options. A DMP is not always the best option for everyone. The appointment would purely be for advice so least then you know where you stand.

If you would like an appointment, please call 0800 138 1111.

    Hi,
I wonder if you can give me some advice.
I have been on a dmp for the last 8 months.
I may be in line for some compensation. My question is I thought about putting this into a high interest acct so I could perhaps make a full and final settlement to my creditors in the near future. Would this be allowed on a dmp or if I were to receive the money would I have to put it towards my dmp and reduce the amount i owe if and when i receive it. I can not afford any more per month to my dmp. If Iwere to receive any compensation it would only be about a third of what i owe.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Without going into to much detail at the moment could you please give me some advice.
All of my credit cards and loans come straight out of my account by direct debit.
If i send letters to my creditors asking for them to freeze interest and accept token payment will they still be able to take the direct debit out of my account?
    Thanks

    Just a general query.
I'm currently on a DMP with you and, at the moment on benefit. Hopefully in the very near future I should be back job hunting.
My question is ; Would it be a wise move to try and seek employment with someone to whom you owe money ? My town is turning into Tesco town so there are likely to be plenty of job opportunities but I owe them over 10k on a credit card.

Hi and thanks for the previous reply but just need to know should I phone Lloyds tsb and reiterate the fact I am on a DMP and cannot afford any more and what is the likely outcome of the enforcement notice as there is no mention of collection agencies only legal action . All this is very worrying as I came to the cccs through a link on the Lloyds tsb website when I realised I was in difficulties but they now don't appear to be very cooperative towards the DMP .
  • Hi,
I hope you can help me. I am considering a DMP, but I have a joint loan of about £10k with my husband. I don't want to drag him into the DMP with me, so I wondered if it is possible to add this joint loan to my DMP without him being affected?
    Thanks
