    Before anyone starts jumping up and down, this isn't directed at anyone in particular and is merely an observation.

    I've just been noseying in the benefits forum and then read this thread and something struck me. Are we becoming a nation of inbreds in this country or is it just my imagination? It doesn't seem to matter what site you go on; if they've got a forum it won't be long til you find a thread about kids and 90% of the posts will be from people talking about the huge raft of disabilities their offspring have got.

    No-one seems to have normal healthy kids anymore, they've got to have some disability that can be 'bragged' about to whoever will listen. Is everyone going round shagging their brother/sister/mother/father or what? I've never known anything like it. When I was a kid I knew of one family that had a disabled girl; everyone else in the area was just normal. Nowadays you have a hard time finding a kid that doesn't have some sort of disability. !!!!!! is going on?

    Valid point.
    It combines well with the raft of "Painful Lives" books we get nowadays too.

    Reminds me of the Bill Hicks joke. I'm touring a 1 man show. It's the shortest show ever. It's called, mom never beat me & dad never f****d me. Turned out ok!
    It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

    its the americanisation of people. they all have to have "issues" these days. yeah, there are a few genuinely disabled kids, we actually had none in my school, but nowadays you have ritalin for the ADD (or whatever it is) kids - in my day, these kids were "naughty" - now they are drugged up zombies. Now you have dyslexia - those were the "thick" kids.

    Sooner of later they will come up with a disability for the fat kids and the less populer kids. remember NOTHING is your fault - you are perfect, the perfect sportsman, the perfect academic - and if you don't show this ability it is society and maggie thatcher who is too blame.

    or einstein. wasn't he dyslexic. thing is you can be dyslexic and intelligent and dyslexic and thick. people tend to forget that.

    have to say horse you are on form today. i haven't laughed so much in ages.:T

    WHITE HORSE;

    I can imagine you as someone I'd really not like the look of in a restaurant;

    ME - 2 children that sometimes put elbows on table and talk a little excitedly. I remember they have rights just like you do!

    YOU - red faced, quietly fuming - "kids should be seen and not heard".

    i think the term 'disabled' has become a very broad church. when i see the ever growing (and ever filled) number of disabled parking spacing, illustrated by the sign of a person in a wheelchair i'd does strike my as strange that the majority of blue badge holders are not in wheelchair at all. you can get blue badges for depression if you are canny enough. now walking is good for you. it raises endorphins and helps prevent obesity. so by giving a depressed person a blue badge so they can park that little bit nearer mcdonalds or whatever you are actually making them more ill. doesn't make sense at all.

    sense at last! :beer:

    can we count on a vote for Europe from you then?
  • people only have 'issues' because too many people have it too good and have time to indulge themselves in every hint of worry, every hint of frustration etc.

    if you're a manual labourer in asia working 10 hours a day, you don't have time for 'issues'.

    'issues' are the sign of a greedy, vacuous, me-centred society.

    Other than the Irish of course (Ireland was part of United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland after the 1801 Act of Union).
    Nobody starves in Ireland these days. Their benefits are even more generous than ours. No incentive for them to find work either.
