It's pretty depressing to read people saying things like, 'I've voted X all my life and nothing is going to make me change now.'
What does it take to break the hold of party tribalism? A policy requiring all newborn babies to be made into meat pies?0 -

Sad thing is when a politician is sure of your vote they will do sweet FA for you - why bother as you will vote for them anyway? - see for example African-Americans and the Democrats.
I hate to disappoint people on here who think that some are just venting their private views every time they spout the party line on here. I think several are paid representatives of said political parties who are bringing the campaign to voters by whatever 'channels' present (stand up Liz Estelle). I also suspect that such people are quite able to supply their dark arts to whoever pays best and their allegiance may be much more to do with who pays their salary than any personal conviction...I think....0 -

Yes, and it seems to occur on almost every thread, leading to a pointless slanging match between those from opposing camps, often with little bearing to the OP.
Personally, I find it extraordinary how party loyalists will invariably seek to defend the indefensible. It's the same sort of misguided loyalty that can, under certain cirumstances, give rise to totalitarianism.
It's always seemed blindingly obvious to me that there are good and bad people and good and bad policies to every party (apart from those on the extreme such as the BNP).
The same applies to celebrities. You hear people talking about their favourite rock star or whatever as though they can walk on water, without any real knowledge as to what the person's actually like. Usually, the full (and often depressing) truth only emerges once the person is dead.

I'm a classic "floating voter". This will be my first time voting Conservative in the general election, in the past I've voted either Labour or Lib Dem, though I have voted Tory in local elections before now. I'm underwhelmed by all of them to be honest. About the only thing that I know for certain is that I'll be disappointed with the outcome, even if the party I vote for come to power. I'm purely voting for my local MP because I like him and he does what he says he will.
I was so genuinely excited in 1997 to think that things would get better, that the working classes would be represented. Instead the working classes got a benefits dumbing-down and we got sent into an illegal war. I've been equally disappointed with Conservative policy prior to that.
I vote because I appreciate those who have fought for my democratic right to do so - whether Pankhurst and the feminist movement or those who fought to keep Fascism from our door in the World Wars, but my God I wish the choices were more inspiring. I can see why so many just can't be bothered tbh. Why anyone would support any party enough to rule out all others for all time has always struck me as a little odd. Hopefully they'll explain why they do it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? People vote for their favourite party regardless of what they say or do.[/QUOTE]
I'm looking at voting labour after a life of voting tory, and my dads the same.
We just do not trust Osbourne and his age of austerity and it will be this if anything that stops the tories getting in.0 -
I'll be voting to avoid a 1% N.I. increase for the duration of the next government. Our household can think of better things to spend the brass on - like ourselves!Skip dipper and proud....0

Hmph... so you don't think that instead of rising national insurance, the Torys will just increase another tax (VAT?) instead. The UK government has a gap of 13% of GDP betweeen what it raises in taxes and what it spends. So, clearly, unless we are in a fantasy magic world, taxes will rise.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

It's not only on here, it was at the labour manifesto too. Some labourites looking on to GB as if he was the second coming. Even the BBC picked up on it.
You simply don't get this from the other parties.....as far a I can see.
It starts to get hysterical (and not in a funny kind of way), and GB was loving it, grinning like a loon as he ignored a question from a reporter....yet found the time to sign the manifesto's for the loons.
Stopping him in his tracks to ask a question on the manifesto....nope, grin grin grin.
Stopping him in his tracks for an autograph....yep, everyone stop!0
