you have your opinions i have mine. i would be interested on yours on the tory immigration proposal

I agree with the Tory proposal. It makes complete sense. I would add the proviso that the cap would need to fluctuate to take account of the needs of the economy at that time so in the good times we could take more people if needed.

I have long favoured unlimited immigration. I have always been comfortable with mass immigration. I think it makes the UK a better society however we have to face reality.

The criticism by Labour and the Lib Dems that it would not work is rather hollow. It works perfectly well for other countries.

I would also say areas of the Tory Manifesto really appealed to me. Nice to see them stealing the Lib Dems clothes with regards to localism.

"Sir Humphrey" may have an insider's view of UK gummint but he is spectacularly wide of the mark with his implication that the US Tea Parties are an artificial construct.

The opposing "coffee parties" on the other hand....

realistically this is going to be set annually though and economies are more fluid than that. why not just make a proviso of a job offer? that allows the market to dictate. i thought the tories were all for free markets?

I do not get Private Eye, who is funding the Taxpayers Alliance and what difference would it make?

It is funded by businesses many of whom have also donated to the Conservative Party.

So it should really be called "Businessmen Who Do Not Like Paying Taxes Alliance".

Some taxpayers may agree with the aims of the Taxpayer's Alliance, but I find the implication in their name that all taxpayers think that is pretty odious.

I have to say that as a taxpayer (not involved in any big business) I do find some of the things they bring to light very interesting.

true but more transparency about their funding and political allegiance wouldn't go amiss.

Sorry, Molesworth, you've been reading too much Huffington. The GOP might be trying to steer the bus but it didn't build it, doesn't own it and there's every chance it could go to places the Republicans might not wish to visit.
