Methinks this person is not very comfortable with his own sexuality. He needs to lighten up a bit and maybe have a coming out party.0

I have a relatively deep voice for a woman, and on several occasions people have assumed that I am a man (it's not that deep!) ... should I sue?!!!

Your original post actually raises quite an interesting point: a letter like that may cause offence (and/or amusement) if sent to a "Mr" in error, but if it were intended for female recipients, would anyone find it offensive? Who would even be likely to give it a second thought?
If the company do not have market research data indicating whether the intended recipient of their mail is in a relationship, and if so, the gender of their partner, surely they would be making assumptions about whoever they send it to? This would apply to some extent even if they did have such market research data on file, since it could be outdated by the time the mail is sent and/or received.
I get junk mail sometimes apparently based on inaccurate assumptions, e.g. "Dear Homeowner". I've even had junk mail sent specifically to my address - a 3rd floor council flat - trying to sell me a conservatory!0
