Plenty of people are happy to speak to and engage with me

I'm always happy to sign up to direct debits, but am starting to run out of charities I don't already donate to :D

Hopefully your company will find more clients or I could sign up to the same ones again perhaps :p

Well you dont have a worthy job your a parasite praying on peoples emotions

I dont answer the door bell if you come I can see people like you knocking on folks doors so I dont bother to answer it your either double glazing, utilities, religious or chugger either way I never answer the door because know you want something unfortunately only thing you get off me is get lost.

If I see you in supermarket or high street I avoid you, if you then peruse me you get told to get lost, I dont care about upsetting you, if are beneath contempt. I dont agree with charities paying money to get people to sign up by annoying them in the high street, supermarket etc

I have a very worthy job. I get to work outside in the sunshine alongside some lovely people, and I get to meet interesting people every day.

Plenty of people are happy to speak to and engage with me, I certainly get enough decent interaction from people to make up for the middle-aged grumps. Its not wrong at all, I've made plenty of money for charity, and had lots of fun doing it. :D

The minimum donation you can make is £8 a month and most of my sign-ups come from people in their 20s and 30s.

The only reason that the minimum donation is £8.00 a month, is because that is what the marketing company you work for insists on so that they get their comission. If you dont get £8 donation then YOU dont get paid. What about people who would be happy to donate but can't afford that amount.?????????????????
Exploitation of the poor, making people think that their donation isnt good enough. Not very good public relations is it.
Dont get me wrong. I'm not criticising what you do - a job is a job.
But in the long run the marketing company who employ you is the one making a profit from the charity in question.
  • To the chuggers on this board like tesphen

YOU may find what you are doing morally acceptable but some of us dont

I am appalled that people like to prey on people in the name of a charity, charities have to raise money but this is not the way to do it

By hounding people at any opportunity, by asking for personnel information then most of there money is then paid to the company YOU work for for along time to come.

By all means charities stand at doors with there tins these are volunteers but its unethical for a charity in my view for hound people for money and or employ a outside agency to get there staff to sign up on commission basis

I dont agree with it, its unethical and immoral way to get funds

Sorry, just for clarity, do people actually get paid to go knocking on people's doors / hassle people on the high street ?
I was under the impression it was usually done by volunteers.
So, if I donate then a portion goes directly to the person who signs me up?
I have to wonder if they actually care about the charity, or only their own pockets.
If anyone in this thread does get paid for sign ups, how can you justify that to yourself ? Shouldn't you be doing it as a volunteer ?

Yes they get paid. The marketing organising that employs the Chuggers are paid approximately (depending on the Company) between £69 and £120 per direct debit of £8 a month and over.
The charity justify this by saying that for every £1 spent on fundrising, they make £3. But on saying this if the chugger doesnt sign up a donor for the minimum donation, then they DO NOT get paid.

Would the marketing Company that employs you be happy to hear you calling potential donors 'ignorant idiots' though on a public forum.
Very, very unprofessional to my mind. You should perhaps note that IP addresses are traceable and that all you are succeding is paint an even more unpalatable pictures of you counterparts in the charity sector.
Whats happening here folk is that charity has become mega, mega, big business, and these marketing companies are exploiting a niche in the market because it works.
It is in fact a multi-billion pound 'business'
What ever happened to the expresion that charity begins at home.
Charity has stopped being idealism and become very lucrative business for a lot of people, like chuggers, fundraisers, exec's for charities, you name it and its in there.

That says it all to me, it kind of proves just what kind of character you really are, if anything I will be triple sure NEVER to donate anything to YOUR charity, all as a result of people like you. Best you dont ring my bell, I will just let the dog out without wasting my breath with a "NO!", whilst I have a good laugh with my neighbours as you hopscotch your backside down the road at triple speed.

All you have done here, is confirmed their is no point in even dialogue with chuggers, who inevitably gather together with their teamsters to knock on doors and ring bells, just for a laugh!

Not what I call a good job, but hey I am sure all cowboys enjoy their jobs this much.

Charity has become big business thats also why scammers have moved in preying on peoples generosity. Some companies are bogus whilst others like some who leave charity bags only make a very small donation and are in fact a private company, but to many its perceived they are a charity

I also like to say some charities do also do collection bags at doors but unfortunately there are companies who are exploiting this too
